Oh dont get me started about shooters not helping on resetting, and tearing down!!!! this was to be a fun topic that is not!!!

I appreciate everything the MD's do, even moreso that they do it on their own time.

That said, Instant scores are possible with practiscore & nobody has to do a whole lot of anything.
The scores are uploaded as the match takes place.
Ponca City has been using this with great results for quite awhile & it's awesome.
MVSA used it for the Big Choate Melee Major 3gun match last fall & they probably use it regularly
Anyone with a smart phone can log in to get results instantly.
As with anything, there are a few hiccups here & there that have to be dealt with but they're probably less hassle than tallying from paper sheets.

That's the difference in shooters i rather pay more and have a staffed range, that is the next level for three gun instead of place that allows us to shoot there and doesnt help.
Then drive your happy ass to USSA and shoot their 3gun match.

Results still get posted 1-2 days later...

well, me personally i love the fact that soooo many people put in so much time and work for FREE to help this sport be great... i guess all in all i REALLY APPRECIATE all the volunteers....

well except for Ryan, he really needs to tell his kids to screw off because he has scores to do!

lol, are you thinking i am talking about a certain gun club, i am talking in gernal

If you don't like how a match is ran, don't shoot it. I help set up, etc when I can. It's a lot of work. I do it because I enjoy it. Here in central Oklahoma we are fortunate to have a place to shoot almost every weekend, thanks to many who volunteer their time.

I'm sure some of the match directors would be willing to put a complaint department up with one of those little #1 pins attached to a hand grenade.

Just want to post a few things from my perspective; I dont have a schedule, I dont have a secretary I can work around, or vacation days, or get paid if Im not at work, working. About the only thing that vaguely resembles a perk is to shoot the match for free. When I get to shoot, which is still about less than 50% of the matches that I help put on.

I want to help put on a good match, make it safe, and then get the **** home so I can remember what my family looks like. When Im wasting MY OWN paper, printing out score sheets the night before the match at 3am because I forgot about it, I will tell you how much I give a elephant dung if the scores are posted withing 24 hours.

As it stands now, our volunteer score compiler and calculator (who just so happened to write a database pgm to do the scores, on his own time) is probably feeling enough heat from last weeks nice little conversation on this website (which was so fun), about who to send the scores to, and when, -that I fully expect him (and dont blame him) to pass on doing this for us (okcgc 3gun) in the future. Matter of fact, hes a good guy and doesnt need any of this.. Im guessing that youre guessing correctly on when I will most likely get them done if I am to do them in the future.

Whether this post is here because of the previous conversation last week, or just a general" thought provoking question" is irrelevant in my opinion, because these are my "general" thoughts on if I am, or were, sometime involved on putting a match, or not putting on a match.

Whats even better now is that since kurt is now on purgatorial "mod review" , Im going to be the only idiot who's going to look at this website, and all the koom-ba-ya polls and ball-scratching-behind-the-computer "suggestions" some folks will come up with.

I want questions or suggestions like, "hey, can we maybe have some support side shotgun shots, or some intermediate range rifle, or maybe we can use this target, or check out this one stage I saw at this match"; instead, its " are the scores done?", and "they should be out within 24 hours, because it should be run like a business???"
Really?
Really?

A good shooter knows when he has a good match. and until we give away prize mangos or ar-15's for order of finish, the scores will be up and available when it pleases those whose responsibility it is to do so.

so dont cut up the golden goose, or youll get the horns.

I've NEVER looked at it as "I paid my money give me my dang scores"

The reason I go to a match and pay money is this:

1) TO HAVE FUN
2) To use a facility and have complete access to it for the 4+ hours that I'm there
3) To have a SAFE and ORGANIZED place to compete
4) To help pay for pasters, paint, targets, and more - I sure as hell do not want to BYOS (yes the S stands for elephant dung)
5) TO HAVE FUN

If you want scores within 24 hours - volunteer to do them (volunteer meaning at NO CHARGE) or write your own time and hit factors down - both ways guarantee you will have YOUR SCORES in 24 hours

I don't think it unreasonable to ask that scores are posted in 4-6 hours. It's not like we are hand writing this elephant dung. It takes less than 30 minutes to type in 100 shooters info into a spreadsheet. Have 2-3 guys or gals that can do said scoring in case the primary guy goes down.

If you hate doing scores or can't do them in a reasonable amount of time get practiscore and your RO's score for you. Scores are done the second the last shooter finishes. It's awesome.

None of us would be shooting matches if there werent scores to use as a measuring stick.

If OKCGC can't do scores in 4-6 hours I will volunteer to drive to the range get the scoresheet a and enter them even if I can't shoot.

It's not hard people.

Last months conversation was about something totally different. Scores were finished but they weren't allowed to be posted.

The OP here shot 3MR with us Sunday. He is also a new MD himself running matches at his club. 3MR is a great match but it cost twice what any other club match costs. It's also a privately ran club so one could assume that the revenue could be profit after all expenses are paid. Much like a major match.

So maybe the question is if you pay more than X dollars when do you expect scores?

I had 54 shooters at steel challenge Sunday when I got home it took me 3 1/2 hours to just sit here and enter scores. there is no way I can get that done in 30 min. that is 1620 scores that have to be entered plus every time is 3 digits so 4860 numbers have to be entered plus the time it takes to add the shooters to the list and save the scores and post them it took me a good 4 hours to do nothing but scores. Sometimes its not just as easy as enter scores you also have to account for people that don't fill the sheet out right. People don't put what class they are shooting, their full name, the scorekeepers chicken scratch the list goes on and on. How many times has a squad put the scores on the wrong score sheet and then you have to figure out what stage it was and then find the right stage that should be there.

We could give em what they want? Your + Kurt + my hourly rate as a match fee. Not to mention all the others that help. Something tells me a $400 match fee might hurt attendance but while we're at it, lets get the Thunder Girls to reset targets.

My take...it's a volunteer sport, and when it comes to volunteer work you take what you can get, with a smile. If there's an aspect of a match you think you can improve (or better yet, take some of the load off the guys running it), then do it. Otherwise shut the **** up and step away from the keyboard. I will personally keep helping with matches as long as my friends are still willing to run them.

/rant. I'm tired of this elephant dung, let's go shoot.

This is for the match directors out there, if you are going to charge for a event then finish the event. I am in sales if i didnt follow though with what i said i was going to i wouldnt have customer's and that is what we are is customers to these events. I think shooters are just so happy to have a place to shoot the customer service level is lacking.

How do you guys feel?
WOW!!!

Seriously???

I'm not 100% sure of the intent in this question, so before I start pounding on the keyboard and sending a reply that will probably get me more than just a "coveted" warning from the administrators, I'm gonna just step back and get another cup of coffee.

You definitely need to get practiscore rigged up out there man.

I may have been exaggerating a bit on the time. I did scores for a few matches and the best way to get them done fast is to have someone working stats continuously during the match.

practiscore does not work for steel challenge. There is an app you can buy from Daa but have not looked too much in to it.

so does anyone ever bring this up with the staff at the actual match, or is this just forums dramabombarama
That would be a bad idea. It's best to just talk about match admin on forums as hypothetical situations.
