I have changed my mind on this. I think the scores should be up the night of the match. Here is the reason i have changed my mind. I pay to go to these shoots and part of the fun is seeing where you scored. If i didnt pay then i would understand the wait because they are doing it on there own time, but there not we pay them. I am going to start running a match in kansas in the next month or two and i will have the scores posted prior to going to bed that night. This is for the match directors out there, if you are going to charge for a event then finish the event. I am in sales if i didnt follow though with what i said i was going to i wouldnt have customer's and that is what we are is customers to these events. I think shooters are just so happy to have a place to shoot the customer service level is lacking.

How do you guys feel?

Well let me know when you drop any other plans you have like a kids birthday party so you can post scores for a match you volunteer to run and don't make a dime from. I understand getting scores out in a reasonable ammount of time but life and a paying job sometimes gets in the way. I try my best to get scores done the same day but that just does not always happen.

Most of the guys that run the local matches are doing it on thier own time & do not get paid.
The money goes to the club for targets, repairs & upgrades.

Most of the match fees I've paid barely cover the cost of the match. There's not a lot of folks making money on these things. I dial my expectations accordingly. Putting on a match is a ton of work, I hope yours goes well.

Match scores used to be mailed to the shooters. Im just glad we have progressed past that. I completely understand most, if not all, match directors are doing this on their own time for no compensation. It's not like we are waiting on results at local matches to walk a prize table. Most of our local matches are posted the same day. Rarely does it go two (2) days like the last 3 gun match.

Most people know how well they shot long before results are posted. Without posted results, I definitely know when I have shot like elephant dung and I usually know when I have shot a good match.

I don't think they have to be posted the same day but by the next day would be nice. Or at least to have them posted. Just look here http://www.boomershooter.com/forums/index.php?/forum/139-tin-star-shooting-range-results/ and you will see there haven't been any posted results since October when I shot my first match there. Granted I didn't shoot the Dec, Jan, or Feb matches but I know they were held and I did shoot the Nov match and haven't seen any results. As a matter of fact that's what lead me to Boomer Shooter was that this is where the results were going to be posted.

Match directors have a life too. They do what they can to get the scores out as soon as possible. Set up the night before, RO the match, tear down. Its a long two days.
My life won't end if I don't have scores.

wall you hit dead on, i would like to see more gun clubs help the directors and the people that do it for free.

Then you should only shoot major matches. You will have results before you go home. And it still takes them 2-3 hrs to get final results posted after the match is complete.

Major matches also result in major match fees to have match staff and statisticians entering scores. Most major 3gun matches are $250+ entry fees. I can't afford that on a monthly basis. I'm fine with results when the match director can get to them.

i am confused, what does wanting the gun clubs to help have to do with shooting major match's?

easy, money has to come from somewhere, 95% of people would prefer to pay 20 dollars a match and get the scores a day or two later, then to double or triple the fee to get the scores a little quicker... i don't go to mcdonalds and complain they didn't serve me filet..

so you saying posting scores with in 24 hours of the match would cost 40 to 60 dollars a person?

I also eagerly wait on scores, but recognize nobody gets paid for most of the work.

I would love to volunteer to help with stats if its ever needed where I shoot. I'm good with computers and data entry, I just don't know who to tell I'm willing to help in that area. Why should the person giving up time before the match to design and set up stages have to be the same one spending time on data entry and reports afterward?

look it is very simple, it is no different than all the people that say things like "if i ran "such and such business" i would do this and that... yet none of those people do run a business!!! it is not that simple.. yes if you are going to have professional people that are going to stay up at night or not attend to their families after being gone, then yes assuming 10 per hour for 5 hour match, then 2 hours to put in scores, not including training or mileage that is an extra 70 dollars right there and that doesn't take into account training etc...

I pay 440 dollars per team in a 9 game plus tourny basketball league.. it just amazes me that i can't think of anywhere else you can get this much fun, setup, etc.. for 20 dollars and people complain... where else can you pay 60 dollars and have access to what we do in a local gun competition?? name any other sport, activity, etc..??

That's the difference in shooters i rather pay more and have a staffed range, that is the next level for three gun instead of place that allows us to shoot there and doesnt help.

If you are wanting to have match directors and other volunteer staff compensated for their time, you are looking at more than $40-60 match fees. Have you ever considered the cost to own and operate a "for profit" range? Land definitely isn't free, not to mention the cost to own and operate it.

I like getting same day results just as much as every other shooter here, but until I have the funds/desire necessessary to open my own range and hold matches, I am happy to pay my $15-20 match fee and not complain about occassionally waiting an extra day or two for match results.

Because three to four shooters do everything to put on the matches for the rest of the shooters. Its labor intensive. At Ponca, the MD has done his best to put the scores out as soon as possible, with new technology. We are learning as we go along. Rain, snow, cold temps have an effect on the NOOKS that we are trying out. Folks operating them have a learning curve as well.

The Match Director is doing everything that can be done to get scores out as soon as possible. Kudo's to him for staying with the plan for getting scores out at the end of the match. Its a new world for scoring! :D
