I purchased 3, 30 rd. Promags and am having a time trying to get them to fit. Has anyone else had this problem? If I get it to fit in then I can't chamber a round as the front of the mag sits too low. Is there any filing here or there I can do. help??

Sorry, wish I could help...but, I don't have a mini-30...

I have used the promags in AR's. They seem to be OK...but, that doesn't help you...

ive always heard a mini-14 had issues with anything but factory mags.

heard that maybe 15 years ago.

There's usually file work that can be done to get a mag to fit, or if they are metal you might have to build up and re-machine the tabs via TIG. Sounds like a lot of work, but there aren't a lot of high-cap mini-30 mag makers.

Start by measuring the feed lips and the latch points of a factory mag, and compare.

I have 7 Tapco Gen2 30 rounders for my mini 14and they all work flawlessly with steel or brass cased .223...my buddy has a mini 30 and hasnt had any issues with his thermold and promag mags

Well these are polymer mags I bought from Cheaperthandirt ( a week ago before I learned of this forum where I'm happy to buy locally). Mine is a Ruger Mini-30 about 12-15 yrs. old. The feed lip on the polymer mags is almost 1/16 inch high where on my metal 5 and 10 rd factory mags is flush, so I would have to do some filing which I shouldn't have to do. I'll just send them back, waiting on a RMA# now from CTD.

Sorry to hear about the mag issues. As someone else mentioned, there really aren't a lot of quality aftermarket mags for Mini-14/30 rifles. For the longest time the only success I had was with Pro Mag polymer magazines.

Before Tapco released their Mini-14 mags, they sent me 4 to test.(I tested products for Tapco, Benchmade, SOG, etc..) I sent them 4 magazines back with an email saying they were horrible and not to move forward with releasing them into the market. They did anyways, and they paid dearly for it. However, they have worked out the kinks and the new Gen2 Tapco mags are fine. My advice would be to try one of those two brands and go from there. Best of luck to you.

Well I ended up sending the polymer mags back to CTD. I found Ruger 20 rd. mags for my mini 30 (built in 1989) from gunclips.net for $21 each.
