Not sure if this isteh right forum..... but.... with powder in short supply ...

We prolly all have some partial bottles of powder we will never use. How about some straight up swaps?

I'm not suggesting members on here would be guilty of this, but I would recommend having a rapport with someone you will trade or even buy powder from. A friend and fellow PSF member on here bought an 8lb jug of "new" 2230, but someone had re-sealed it after having removed the 2230 and replacing it with reclaimed military powder...a big loss.

Not trying to deter this thread, just buyer/trader beware!

I've got a partial pound of Winchester WSF (shotgun, pistol) that I'd trade for some Bullseye, or anything that loads into larger rifle such as .30-06 or 8x57. Or, honestly, anything better in 9x19 than the WSF.

If you're worried it isn't what it says on the label, you can watch me load some 9mm with it and go to the range and shoot it in my pistol. Got no reason to fudge with safety when it comes to gunpowder.

Yah, powder and primers have become scarce (but occasionally there). Projectiles just don't exist right now. I really need to start casting/swaging my own.

Lucked into a pound of Alliant Unique. Sealed, with receipt.

Would trade for a pound of Universal or Bullseye.

Or I may just keep it - supposedly good in 9x19 and .45ACP.

I have used Unique for years in my 9mm, 38/357 and 45. There are other powders that are higher performing and cleaner burning but it is good all around performer.

If you want to sell it just let me know as I don't have any Universal or Bullseye to trade.

What type of round? 5.0gr sounds right for 124gr FMJs but I was trying to verify on Hodgdon's site, but their reloading data center seems to be down. I verify anything my manual says for Hodgdon/IMR powders on there.

124 jacketed fmj or plated tmj.

my manual shows 5.1 - 5.8g for 124g XTP (I think that's a non-lead bullet). In fact, it only shows unique for the XTP bullets, in any weight. This is a Lee 2nd edition. Alliant's website shows only load data for Speer Gold Dot JHP - 5.8 grains under a 124 grain bullet.

I find it odd that Unique is advertised as an almost universal pistol powder (including 9x19 and 45acp), but only has load data in 9mm for exotic bullets.

I've got an internet collection of manuals; one for 9mm loads in particular. For 124gr rounds and Unique, here are the following loads and corresponding velocities:
4.7gr 1025fps
4.8gr 1050fps
4.9gr 1075fps
5.0gr 1100fps
5.1gr 1125fps

FMJ RN overall length: 1.150"

With plated bullets, I'd cut back the load by .1 or .2 gr and I'm sure you know to be careful with case neck tension as well.

Yeah, I have the crimp die adjusted to just iron out the flare. I don't like to crimp something that headspaces on the case mouth

I have a Speer Manual #13, it lists the following 9mm data for 124 grain SP and Gold Dot Hollow Point with Unique. Both have an overall length of 1.120".

5.2 g 1080 fps
5.8 g 1180 fps

I loaded up some a few months ago at 5.6 grains, it ran fine in my pistols.

That's why it's important to work up your loads starting low. I trust the powder manufacturers data over a bullet manufacturer as far as load data goes. Alliant says 5.8gr at 1.12 oal for 1180fps with a jacketed GDHP. I read a bunch of shooters like 5.0 to 5.2gr for a soft shooting recipe. Most plated bullets need a load similar to cast bullet specs.
