Palmetto Shooters AR15???

My first AR build was a DEL-Ton M4 kit. I can't praise them enough. The rifle is very accurate and trouble free. I had one FTF with a 5 round aftermarket magazine. The Brownell mags(20rd & 30rd) work perfectly. The barrels are Wilson Combat match barrels so no surprises about accuracy. That said, I 'm all for trying different manufactures products. I would like to build a piston upper in the future. If a budget is important, then the standard upper is more in line. I'm tall so a collapsible stock gives me a better fit.

I'm not sure. I suppose it's possible. It's not something I've tried nor would recommend.

I don't think it would be possible to get a run away unless you had the wrong internals.
I was just curious how far you could pre-load the trigger.

Okay. BTW, interested in a gas piston conversion for the AR? I did one not long ago. I was surprised how easy it was.

It was the Bushmaster conversion for my Bushmaster M4. So far it's been spot on reliable. The gun runs cool and clean. One area of worry though is the BCG. I'm concerned about, and keeping an eye on, the BCG to see if the gas piston causes more wear on the carrier at the key and rear of the carrier.

You're right with 1000.00 you could get a nice'en off the rack. Where is the fun in that? I have as much fun building as I do shooting. My son was home on leave week before last and we sat down and built the lower I had bought and set aside for us to build together when he came home. He is planning on looking around for a suitable upper' or the parts to build it, for when he comes back home, either on leave or if his next billet is at the nuke school here in Charleston. With that in mind I've purchased a stripped upper and I'm gathering the parts to build a rifle upper with a 20" barrel and free float handguard. I've been reading the comments here and at AR15.com to guide me. I am staying well below 1000.00. Looks like with a match barrel I'll be closer to 675.00 ready to shoot. I'll update as I get closer to finished. Got a good deal on a charge handle and bolt/carrier assembly at the gunshow in Charleston today. Jeremy Davis of West Carolina Tactical (nctactical.com) had FN and YHM parts at excellent prices. Better than on his site.

After seeing all the nice toys at the Shootzenfest I am wanting to crank this project back up.
I was thinking a spikes lower but now y'all have me thinking about possibly a plum crazy might be an option.

What kind of upper though?
Barrel?
Forend?
Sights?

DelTon makes a good upper IMO, I have two and they have been flawless. I have a Spikes also and while a good upper I'm not impressed with the finish. I have a M16 bolt carrier group in one and a regular AR15 carriers in the other two. I've read a bit on the difference between the two and have come to the conclusion that the M16 is just a tick more durable and more heavy duty. Both my M4 barrels are DelTon(one heavy and the other is standard) and the 24" bull barrel is Bushmaster which is second hand, All three have performed great. If you are gonna build on a budget I would cruise the boards especially ARFCOM's Equipment Exchange.

Just my two pennies but always remember.....

I have an exrta A2 upper without barrel and stuff. I would donate it, if you deceide to build one with a carry handle. It is a Rock River...and, I might have a Colt A2 soon...

I like the spikes lower with DPMS LPK, get a YHM, or DPMS ( Black Rain Billet Machined Upper if you got the money )flat top upper for around $100 put a MBUS flip up sight, get a m16 bolt and carrier, nice charging handle, then find a heavy to medium barrel in either 16 or 20 in., use a tapco 6 position butt stock, any nice set of hand guards, low profile gas block with mini rail system for MBUS flip up sight.
