I've got a Remington 700 SPS/AAC-SD .308. It has a 20", 1:10 twist barrel and an ugly blue-ish green stock. I am going to replace it eventually with a B&C Medalist (it's affordable...some of them cost more than the damn rifle) that'll take paint better; I doubt the Hogue rubberized stock will hold up as well but I had to try. And the .30 cal suppressor in FDE I've got coming won't look so out of place on this color scheme.
I painted a Marlin .22 bolt gun a while back with the pinestraw method which turned out more "crisp", this looks a little more like claw marks. I think the difference is I picked the pinestraw this time off the ground, the last time it came right off a tree. I think the paint clumped more this time due to pollen/dirt etc. Anyway, the rifles aren't identical which is fine by me.
I used Rustoleum Camo paints. Khaki as a base and a dark Olive Green and Brown for the markings. They have a lighter green that I didn't use but might splash on my .22lr.
Pics:
Prep work. I had to duct tape the recoil pad because painters tape wouldn't stick (REAAAALLY soft rubber). Also put cotton balls in the scope caps just in case and sealed up the chamber really well, and taped off the QD Mount
I took the scope off and did the bottom of it separately as well as the rail and barrel so I could get good coverage.
Base coat
Brown
Finished
