For most of SC, empty Indian Ocean. In fact, the suck from the Statehouse probably is responsible for the MH370 disappearance.

Closest dry land would probably be Diego Garcia or another atoll.

Yes, I'm aware I'm being a smart*ss... but the question made me think "I wonder if google can answer that" and it turns out, it can. There's a tool called antipodr that uses google maps to show it.

that wasnt being smartass that was a silly question. great answer. i was always told when i was digging a hole i would end up in China.

never been there but im glad i stopped cause i wouldnt have wanted to open up a hole to the Indian ocean.

Diego Garcia, at least, is beautiful - think Gilligan's Island. But it gets old after a few days. For me, as an air force guy, being surrounded 1000 bored navy guys there for a *year* looking for something to do, it was pretty cagey. We all slept in our airplane, armed. :shock:
