OKCGC 3-Gun match QUESTIONS

I want to try the 3 gun match at OkcGC at the end of July but I have a few questions.

1. How much of each type of ammo do I need?
2. I only have a pump shotgun, will I get laughed at?
3. The optic on my AR is a simple 1x Vortex Red Dot, will that work? What is the longest rifle shot that I will have to make?
4. How many shot shell caddies and rifle
Mag pouches do I need?

From the mouth of Kurt Miller, see below. Exceptions will be posted during match announcement.

"For the 3-gun matches, plan on 75 pistol, 75 rifle and 50 shotshell, each and everytime! always bring 5-10 slugs. If we need any special shotgun ammo like buckshot, that will be anounced, but if you always plan on that you will be fine. Set-up will always start around 2:00 p.m. on the Friday before. I don't have the time nor the inclination to always post the round count or the stages, just show up and shoot! ( Note: these are the minimum and I personally bring 100 pistol, 100 rifle.)"

1. See reply above.
2. Pumps are fine. You won't be the only one there shooting a pump.
3. 300 yards is longest shot on the long range stage. Red dot is fine. Chamber's kicks most of our asses with only a red dot.
4. Bring whatever shell caddies you have. People will gladly lone some if there is a stage with a lot of shotgun reloading required. Stick a rifle mag in your back pocket if there is a large rifle stage. With a 180 sec timeout on all stages, you will have a hard time burning more than 60 rounds on the long range stage.

I also am looking to get started in 3 gun. The optic I have on my AR right now just simply won't work up close so I'm looking at getting a new one. Is it better to have a straight 1-4x optic or would a 1.5-4 work just as well?

Generally most guys prefer the true 1x power optics vs the 1.5x powers. On stuff that is 25 yards and out, I usually do about 1.25x or 1.5x, I like that slight magnification. Anything closer than that, I really like having the true 1x. Durability, weight, and budget are always 3 things to consider. You can usually pick 2, but it's hard to get all 3. Starting out, probably get whatever is cheap or available and when you discover what you like, you can upgrade. Or go all out right off and get the Swarvoski Z6i.

I started out shooting a 1.25-4x trijicon TR21. It was fine until I bought a 1-4 TR24 then it wasn't any good at all anymore. If you're looking for a good budget 3 gun optic the Burris Tac30 can be had for $250-275 on the used market. I have 3 of them on my backup and practice guns.

Anyone used one of the leatherwood cmr's? Trying to decide between that, the Burris, and a vx-1.

I havent heard anything horrible about the CMR, a few not so great reviews but in the price range i guess that is bound to happen.

I have a Burris Tac-30, and for the price i dont think you can come close to beating it. The Vortex 1-4 is nice too, but its just bit more expensive and the reticle seems more suited to precision shooting which is odd in a 1-4x. They are both great for the money though.

From what i have read/heard, its pretty hard to beat the Tac30/MTAC for under a grand. If you want to spend +/- a grand, there are some nice options like the new Bushnell 1-6, the Vortex Razor 1-4 (1-6 out soon) and the new Leupold vx6 Multigun.
