I...don't have a problem with most of this. The only way #6 would be necessary is if all private sales have to go through an FFL, which would suck, but an EO can't make that happen. #11 is long overdue. #13 is kind of vague.

I don't like #5 because I feel like cops could keep seized guns by saying "nah man we can't give that back yet, we're waiting on the background check."

#15 is a laugh. Do they want us to implement a DNA scan lock like in Judge Dredd?

The rest of it is either improving mental health care, improving school security, or better enforcement of existing laws. That's pretty much what the NRA has been saying.

14. "Issue a presidential memorandum directing the Centers for Disease Control to research the causes and prevention of gun violence."

HUH? Is gun violence a disease? am i showing my ignorance here? i don't understand this one.

16. "Clarify that the Affordable Care Act does not prohibit doctors asking their patients about guns in their homes."

what? when would a doctor have cause to inquire about my gun ownership?

The CDC collects data on all sorts of causes of death and other statistics. I've actually been using some of their stats when being challenged by gun grabbers using inaccurate statistics. Here's one of the CDC reports: http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/nvsr/nvsr60/nvsr60_03.pdf

The number 16 EO I'm sure is for when a doctor is discussing mental health issues with a patient.

So nothing about large capacity clips or the bad black guns?

Those can't be targeted with an executive order. They're moving on those with legislation they're introducing in the Senate.

The affordable care act specifically says that doctors cannot ask about firearms possessions. Obama lied. Imagine that.

#15 scares me. I'm sure they will bring up fingerprint locks, etc.

Do you think it will be ruled that the act only prevents collection and use of the information in regards to determining premium rates? I'm sure that's how he'll try to spin it.

Sec. 2717. Ensuring quality of care. Requires the Secretary to develop guidelines for use
by health insurers to report information on initiatives and programs that improve health
outcomes through the use of care coordination and chronic disease management, prevent
hospital readmissions and improve patient safety, and promote wellness and health. As
added by Section 10101, protects Second Amendment gun rights by precluding the collection
and disclosure of information related to gun ownership or use for purposes of determining
premium rates.

These should really bother citizens in general, not just gun owners. Has anyone you know ever taken an anti-depressant? (I thought so)

2. Address unnecessary legal barriers, particularly relating to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, that may prevent states from making information available to the background check system.

4. Direct the Attorney General to review categories of individuals prohibited from having a gun to make sure dangerous people are not slipping through the cracks.

16. Clarify that the Affordable Care Act does not prohibit doctors asking their patients about guns in their homes.

Now to make fun of a couple of them:

7. "Launch a national safe and responsible gun ownership campaign."

Well, that should put an end to any future mass murders [sarcasm]

8. "Review safety standards for gun locks and gun safes

Not even sure how to respond to this

11. "Nominate an ATF director."

The last one worked out really well [sarcasm]

13. "Maximize enforcement efforts to prevent gun violence and prosecute gun crime."

WOW!, I never thought of that

The important part of this is going to be WHAT will be reported. If a person has an extreme mental disorder then I don't think they should have guns. If somebody is taking anti-depressants then I certainly don't think that their rights should be violated.

I agree but I don't want that determination to be made by the government

I think the question, "Has the government gotten too big?" has been answered in spades. The thing is that now, it is so big and increasingly expanding that gun control has become important. The more control they have of the 2nd amendment, the more it can expand.

You think it's intrusive now? Just wait. We have slipped down a slippery slope. I think now the only ones that will enjoy the ride are the ones in control of the descent. I think we have been sliding little by little for some time now. I understand the fight is not over, but make no mistake, the fat lady is warming up the vocal cords. This is still far from over on either front, but eventually one side will fail as always in matters with opposition.

I think we need to get more people involved that have been on the fence and educate the ones willing to listen.

There will always be some that will only see things their way even if the truth is staring them straight in the face.

(Sorry, I live in a house divided. And, I'm the one that's wrong.) ??

That's a lot of unicorn fart bottled up right there.

Lol.

I know, right? hehe.

But how wrong is it really? I understand times are changing. I just wonder if we are going soft in the wrong places. Ever since 9/11 I feel like we have been chasing a feeling of saftey. We are just not going to catch it. Because there is nothing to catch.

You are only as safe as you feel you are. Personally, I feel as safe as I did before 9/11. I realise that bad things happen. We can't live in a padded room and not look like a lunatic. I just think we need to stop trading "our saftey" for saftey.

I could be wrong but hasn't the CDC already done 51 studies which determined gun control does not help to stop gun violence!

Probably. They also issued one that said sometimes people will die if shot
:sign0098: :iagree:

Wow, they could have paid me for that little tid bit of common sense. I would have gladly cashed that check.
