A bill being considered by state legislators would invite hunters to use almost any means to slow the expansion of wild hogs and coyotes in South Carolina.

?We?re declaring war on hogs and coyotes,? said Rep. Phillip Lowe, R-Florence, during a House natural resources subcommittee meeting Wednesday.

Lowe introduced the bill, H.4943, which would allow night hunting of hogs, coyotes and armadillos from March through June. Not only does the bill allow hunting after dark, but it also allows the use of bait, lights and laser sights ? almost anything short of poison that might aid in getting rid of these destructive species.

I'm all for night hunting of coyotes and hogs but armadillos? I guess that must be a low country problem we don't see them up here.

Cool. Hope it goes thru. I'll be looking for a laser. I believe some of the wardens have been turning a blind eye to some of the hunting techniques of hogs already.

Can't remember exactly where I saw them but they weren't to far from Lexington.

Holy Smokes....Between this bill and the saturday night special bill I actually feel like we are getting somewhere in SC.

Yeah, I need to go Hog Hunting with someone . . . I have never been so not about to go by myself the first time. Also, I guess I need a hog gun . . suggestions?

I've been trying to get some people here to go hog hunting in the newberry WMA. Timing is hard with everyone working longer and harder. I plan on taking my 300 blackout.

Didn't realize armadillo's were a problem here already. I saw my first one a few months ago in Summerville.

What makes a good hog caliber? High velocity or heavy bullet weight? I'd think a soft point 7.62Russian, 30-06, or 7mm Remington would all do the trick. Rifled slugs should work great also. I'd like to use the Mosin just to have finally have a use for that 18 inch "Pig Sticker" on the front.

Be a man and use a boar spear like they did in the old days. Now that's a sport.

Just depends on how good your aim is. People hunt them with lots of different cal.'s. I know of people using 223 and 5.56.

I love to him 'em with my 338 Lapua (nothing runs after being hit with a 250gn BarnesTTSX), but have also taken them with 308, 303 British, and both 357 Mag and 10MM hanguns.

I have a night vision setup waiting to go on my M1A that is just waiting for this bill to pass.

SAVE THE ARMADILLOS!!!!!

Why don't you like armadillos, they taste just like rabbit.
