Not shooting much

I'm not shooting as much as I used to and I finally figured out why. I shoot at my own range out here in the pasture behind my home. The grass is plenty low, but for some reason I lose about 40% of my 40 S&W and 9mm brass every time I fire. It has finally gotten to the point I just haven't been shooting. I shoot a Glock 27 and a Browning Hi-Power. Are there brass catchers for these pistols or is there some innovative method someone could share where I could recover my brass. I'm open to any suggestions. I've spread a painter's tarp on the ground and still can't seem to catch every spent cartridge. I reload all my rounds and don't care to waste the brass.

You know, I ran out and bought the first one. Doesn't work at all in grass, twigs, small native pecans and other assorted ground trash. I'll sell it if someone is interested.
 
As I mentioned in my first post, I've tried that. Didn't work. Was able to save a few more, but the best I've done so far is to save about 60% of what I'm shooting. (loose guesstimate over the years)
 
That's the problem with shooting "behind the house". I have a small berm that is used for checking new loads, and that's about it.

I did take a blade behind the tractor once and scraped off the leaf/grass litter to brown dirt for a 20' radius, and that made all the difference in the world. Pretty much recovered all, but its a PITA, so I just drive to the range now.

Mine was close to the house, and was kind of an eyesore, but if you have a place out of sight, you might try that.
 
Where I stand to shoot my pistols is right under a native pecan tree. Smooth ground or not, those nuts and twigs are always there. I even go rake the area before shooting.
 
I just ordered a 10'x20' Shade Cloth with Taped Edges. It should be a lot easier to handle than a painters tarp and brass will show up on it because it's black. I think that will get me back to shooting pistols again. Thanks for the comments.

It's not a black tarp...........and I don't stand on it. This is what I'm using: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B010US4P66/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It is placed to the right of where I'm standing so it catches the brass as it ejects off to the side. I recently used it when I shot 250 rounds. Ended up with 248 brass cases at the end of the session. (guess two went off into the crass and I couldn't see them. I'd say it's a winner..........at least in my book.
 
Don't lay the tarp on the ground. Place it upright on a couple posts next to where you shoot so as the cases come out of the gun they hit the tart and fall straight down. Fold the bottom foot or so of the tarp to act as a catch basin.
 
I could just get them to hold the tarp for me.

All kidding aside, the 10'x20' shade tarp on the ground, if placed accurately, works just fine. I'm very pleased with it.
