So I saw cabelas has a blackfriday sale on Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40 BDC reticle for 99 dollars going from that Friday to the following Wednesday. I have a Mossberg patriot with the generic no name scope on it, eye relief is decent and light collection is pretty good considering, I know the Nikon would be better, and at that price, should I really jump on it? Or do sales like that come all the time and just save my money for a monarch or something a little better?

Decent price. I've got one on my .50 cal Savage smokeless muzzleloader.
Sighted it in years ago and it's held zero since.
Nikon also has a lifetime no fault no question warranty.

Yeah. Just debating on if I "need" it lol. I mean is light collection just THAT much better? I shot at a small white target at 110 yards last night just before 550pm(legal last light times) and I could see it pretty clearly. I mean if the prostaff would make it appear to be complete daylight I might consider it, otherwise I can spend that 99 bucks on more feed and other supplies? Eye relief is another issue, Not sure if it is that much more generous on a prostaff vs this no name. I would say my eye is 1 to 2 inches from the scope usually to get full field of view, and when I look through them mounted at the local academy, it seems almost the same distance, maybe just a little further with quicker sight in, but not by much it seems.

The BDC reticle on those are awesome. Does it say it's for a specific caliber?
On some of those scopes the circles are set for different distances like a built in range finder , so if the brisket of the deer ( 18" area ) fits in the circle it means it's that far away, and so on.
