I had a set that were as bright as the day I bought them for 6 years. Sold the gun 2 years ago and don't know if they're still going or not. But I've heard 10-12 years.

Eleven years is standard. They do get dimmer over time, but most of the dimming is toward the end of their useful life. They work by nuclear decay. Not nu-kyoo-lur.

The half life of tritium, which is the radioactive substance which gives them their glow, is 12.3 years. After 12.3 years, they will be half as bright as they were when new. After 24.6 years they will only be 1/4th as bright as when new. That's where the standard of replacing them every 10-12 years comes from.
