Anyone who pays attention to the news should realize that the title of this post is not really "news". But i think its going downhill fast. Mayor "16oz" Bloomburgs nanny state dreams are being aided and abetted by the New York senate in the form of a bill that makes it a felony (yes, a felony) to annoy a cop. Looking at a police officer in a "disrespectful manner" may soon be equated with rape and murder. Specifically "the bill... would make it a felony to harass, annoy, or threaten a police officer while on duty". Don't want to let them in to your house to conduct a warrant-less search? you just annoyed them. Ask them for direction to many times? see previous statement. Said good morning in an annoying manner? caught them on a bad day? Downloaded the liberator design? your now a felon. I agree that police work hard, and need to be treated with some respect, but allowing an unquantifiable / subjective criteria like annoyance be a defining factor for a felony seems to be a little beyond reasonable to me.

Things getting weirder every day.........It's them democrap socialists at work!!! They get a little bit here and a little bit there and soon we are subjects in a socialist empire.

As a retired LEO who is proud of my many years of faithful and honest service of enforcing both the letter and the "spirit" of the laws that are in place to help ensure the safety of those who cannot, or will not, protect themselves, I can tell you this proposed legislation is absurd, insane, ridiculous, and frightening. If you can't tolerate being "annoyed" then you have no business being a LEO in the first place.

Locally, there is intelligent debate, discussion, differences of opinion and disagreement about whether it is even criminal to threaten a police officer. Sometimes charges are made by stretching the definition of who is a "public official" to apply to LEOs. Many see it as part of the job. What does Bloomberg think "harass" an officer mean? But the real kicker is the "annoy" part-and it's a felony!? That part will be open to interpretation and I see it as restricting First Amendment rights to "speak" to your government in the form of a uniformed police officer.

There are many, many reasons I do not live in New York (or any other bastion of liberal/progressive totalitarianism). Add this to the list.

And by the way, since the NSA is collecting not only phone records but internet data, I have little doubt that the entire content of a 'gun forum' definitely has their full attention. Say hello to Big Brother!
 
More NY dumbness. When will we get off this "police are special people" train? Why isn't it a felony for people from NY, or the police for that matter, to annoy me?

I'm never going to NY again, but if I end up there against my will, and happen to annoy a cop causing me to get arrested, I might as well really annoy him. I'm going to memorize a lengthy rant about his mother, sister, transvestite father, goats, midgets, and car batteries. ;)
 
I've been avoiding NYS and NJ for years.

When I travel between SC and Ont., I go out of my way to pass through Detroit, where FOPA is respected and the CBP officers respect The Constitution.

It's so bad that some Federal CBP officers on the NY side of the border have threatened me with arrest. This means that you have Federal officers, sworn to uphold The Constitution, preferring to uphold NYS law--even though a clause in the NYS constitution echoes 2A.

I used to drop by Alessi Holsters near Buffalo to purchase some really first rate stuff and have a nice chat with Tom. No more.

(Anyway, crossing at Michigan instead of NYS gives me the pleasure of enjoying an evening in Charleston WVa, a totally pleasant town, and a delightful ride through the WVa mountains.)

It's funny that NYS, with its insane gun laws, borders Vermont, with it almost non-existent gun laws. NYS has a ton of gun crime, where as Vermont has none. NYS also borders Ontario and Quebec with even more insane gun laws--that NYS Democrats would love to have--and those two provinces have much more gun crime than Vermont.

In fact, I'm monitoring one of the downtown Toronto police radio talkgroups right now. A kid just shot up a street with a .45. (Casings recovered.) The lack of CWP and strict licensing for possession of firearms does not seem to stop Toronto gang members.

Actually I think you can move out of NY and in to Canada for the lower taxes and better gun laws now. :lol:

No CCW, though, and you need an authorization to transport to a range, to a gun store, to a gunsmith, to the border, and if your paperwork isn't in order, you can get 3yrs in jail for a paper crime.

Now, the Ontario Chief Firearms Officer is making up laws at whim. F'rinstance, now, I can't take a handgun to a range to which I don't belong unless I have a written invitation with me. He's being taken to court over this one. The bureaucrat thinks he can write legislation.

And, it appears that the RCMP is getting ready to confiscate a bunch of long guns they deemed legal years ago.

Soooo, yeah, good thing my Canadian wife is wonderful....

BTW, I'll be in MB in July. :D
 
New York has some of the dumbest laws on the books. And the hoops you have to jump thru concerning guns is totaly F'd up!
I owned a gun shop for many years and saw a lot of stupid stuff and some really bad stuff. Once a customer came in to buy a pistol but didnt have a permit, so I helped him apply for a state pistol permit. He was denied because the local judge attended school as a boy with my customer's dad and didnt like him! He moved to another county and re-applied and was issued a permit. Another customer had a permit and wanted a revolver I was selling. So he submits a request for a purchase coupon and the same judge denies it "because the guy lives in a rough area"! Mind ya that this guy already had 6 pistols already.
This , the high taxes and 300 inches of snow per yr prompted me to move to SC.
 
Please let me show you how this NYS unconstitutional law fits in with the global civilian disarmament movement.

Back in the nineties, the Canadian anti-gun activist Wendy Cukier was instrumental in bringing in Canada's Firearms Act . Before that, Canada's gun laws were similar to Michigan's or Pennsylvania's. Fairly free.

It took a school shooting (sound familiar) and a compliant media (sound familiar?) to get the heavy duty anti-gun laws passed.

Wendy Cukier worked closely with Rebecca Peters, who got most of the guns confiscated in Australia. Wendy Cukier was instrumental in setting up gun control in South Africa. I believe that she got the SA gov to buy the same outrageously expensive software that Canada bought for its long gun registry. The organization that pushed gun control "Gun Free South Africa" is funded by George Soros.

Rebecca Peters was an employee of one of George Soros' front groups. You might want to check to see if Wendy Cukier still has George Soros' and his front group on her CV. Among the many anti-gun groups billionaire socialist Soros funds is the Florida Center for Investigative Reporting, which falsely reported that gun homicides increased since CCW. Simply false.

Wendy Cukier and Rebecca Peters served as President and VP of IANSA. That organization is directly behind the UN Small Arms Treaty that Obama is ready to sign. Soros funds IANSA.

Canada is the try-out jurisdiction for laws and regulations various states are inplementing. For example, Liberal MP Elinor Caplan--a woman who had never held a firearm, sat down with a copy of Janes Gun Recognition Guide and prohibited any Canadian legally-purchased long gun that looked scary to her. Confiscations numbered in the thousands.

I tried to show here that the U.S. anti-gun groups are not local movements, but rather part of an internationalist movement funded by at least one billionaire socialist. This is why we must be politically active on the state and national level and support our pro-gun groups.
 
As a resident of NY currently I can tell you that Cuomo's policies are by far not popular in the whole state. Unfortunately the policies of the liberals in charge are being shoved down the throats of the rest of the state by Cuomo with the aids of far to many Republicans who are frankly gutless to make a stand against him for some reason. There are a few notables that stood up against Cuomo and continue the fight but not enough at high enough of a level. Which is how this crap happened in the first place.

Albany is about as corrupt as can be. Anyone following ANY of the recent scandals in Albany should have no illusion that the state government is anything but a cesspool of corruption. Of course the recent revelations about the Federal governments massive spying campaign on American citizens (along with the whole world) has overshadowed that by far. Rightly so. While the Feds try to play it down. Make no mistake this metadata as they call it is infinitely valuable. We are being told to "Calm Down" by Harry Reid... but anyone in IT will tell you how dangerous this is. Essentially this "metadata" allows them to, among other things, track the location of everyone who makes a call with a cellphone and keep that information forever. The Supreme Court ruled last year I think it was that they can't bug your car without a warrant. Well why bother with all the hassle now? They are tracking the location of EVERY American who makes or received a cellphone call. Make no mistake this is not just a Democrat program. As they are as always trying to blame Bush because he started it. This is a program that shows how overreaching the feds have become. This is an attack on the very foundation of freedom. As another person put it on a tech site I was recently reading... If you think this is OK and no big deal remember this insanity is what we're being told to "Calm Down" about now because it's no big deal what will we be told to "Calm Down" about in 10 years, twenty? It does make one wonder if the attack on the Second Amendment is a coincidence or purposely timed to coincide with an impending power grab.
 
It's so comforting to know that the federal government is being run by the anti-gun Democrats from New York and Illinois, and financed by the multi-millionaire ultra-leftists from NYC and CA. Charming.

To support what jfeenin says, take a look at this map. The only NYS counties supporting SAFE are the 5 boroughs of NYC, the two suburban Long Island counties, and the county that has Cornell U. within its confines.
