New to forums, AR-15 virgin ;-)

Welcome aboard. im no pro but a good comp and good glass helps a ton. Burris offers a package deal on the m tac and peppr mount and as a bonus they give you a fastfire 3. I love mine. Like I said with 3 gun the sky is the limit. Get out the credit card and all our great sponsors have all you need. Get the boomer shooter jersey next year shot smie matches take some pictures post them with scores and win some awesome swag to play the next year.
 
The first thing I would do on a bushmaster is have someone check the staking on the carrier key. I've seen a good number of bushmasters fail at this point once they heat up. It's a very simple fix that can save you headaches down the road. Other than that, they seem to be fine.

I'm new to 3-gun - I plan on trying out a simple red dot like an EO Tech or Aimpoint, which is what I have on hand.

Grips, forends, etc - that's all personal choice. I prefer smooth without rails except for the top. There are a lot of options out there that weren't available 3 years ago - it's a buyer's market.

When you are ready spend your cash at make ready pro shop or shooters source. If you ask nice they will give you their personal number and you can ask away with all your questions and they dont make you feel stupid.
 
I would just make sure that it's reliable! there are a massive list of goodies you can add but not needed to get out there and shoot and have fun after all that's what this is about. I would offer a couple of suggestions, the triggers on AR rifles for a better word suck! a rifle is only as good as it's trigger and accuracy will suffer with a crappy trigger. No need to go out and purchase a scope as iron sights work just fine, a little practice and a 10" plate at 300 yards will not be that difficult to hit! one hint though is to get a finer front sight pin of around the .030" size. Get some ammo and go shoot is the best advice I could offer, take your time and make it good practice! 10 rounds of thought out shooting is steps above and better than 100 rounds just shot. You will after some time shooting figure out what you would like to add to your rifle.

Someone should tell you, if you decide to walk down the 3 gun path, that it is a black hole of money sucking bliss, until one day you wake up and find yourself at work with a cell phone in an AR mag pouch, pencils in pistol mag pouches, and shotshell caddies loaded with tums and lifesavers. Save yourself while you still can.
