** I'm on Benos and stlouisshooters under the same ID. So, for the other STL / midwest bi-state area shooters that know me, move along. Nothing to see here. :)~

I started shooting competitions in late 2010. When I'm not working a day job or playing Dad to 3 daughters or husband to a bride of many years, this soon to be 38 year old loves competition shooting. I shoot for fun and entertainment first. I want to get better, I enjoy tinkering with the gear and love to learn, but if I'm not having fun - I'll do something else. Thus, the squads I get on tend to be those where kidding and cutting up are expected and not frowned upon. When we shoot - it's down to business, we film for critique and are always working toward improvments, but between stages and during carpool - there's usually much ribbing and comorodery.

I've Dabbled in IDPA briefly.. very briefly... but I enjoy shooting steel more. USPSA is my action pistol game of choice by far though!

I started in Limited with an STI Edge and moved to Open with an Ottocomp custom 9mm Major with Cmore STS as soon as my gun was done being built (in Feb 2012). The sideways mounts seemed like a distraction, so with with a custom mount and the STS. So far, so good. I'm a C- class shooter in both divisions. I don't shoot many majors, but made it to Area 5 last couple of years as well as IL sectional, Steel Pro Am in Missouri both years and IDPA backstoppers in 2011. I got my first wood at the IL sectional at PASA this year (1st Open C).

I shoot all over the STL, MO / IL surrounding area. If it's within a 2-hour drive and the hold regular USPSA matches, there is a good chance I've been there. I have not shot a match outside of the bi-state area yet. Top Gun Shooting Sports is an indoor home range and retailer for me. I shoot with a bunch of those guys and we are moving toward putting together a more formal team in 2013. Arnold Rifle Pistol Club is probably my home outdoor range, but I shoot regularly at Benchrest, World Shooting Complex, PASA and COPS in Rolla. Most recently, I shot the Gateway 3-gun hosted match at Highland, IL rifle and pistol club. Jeremy M and Aaron P put on a really fun match Sunday, and now... I'm researching shotguns...

Talked a bit virtually over the interwebs with Jesse via a mutual friend, Greg L, and learned about the Boomshooters community. I shoot with several locals that have an interest in 3-gun as well as USPSA. I'm gathering all the info I can right now, so I welcome another forum.

Greg shot out at the recent Ozarks match and from testimony, I was itching to get my hands on a quality rifle then shotgun and start the 3-gun learning process. After some brief practice with his Benelli, and trying Don H's AP Custom AR, I knew I started to get an idea of what I was needing. BTW: Greg tried to get me out to the Ozarks 3-gun, but I wasn't and still am not set up for it yet... we are planning a road trip for 2013, so maybe...

I received my AR-15 from Matt and Rich over at Predator Tactical earlier this month. I'm still waiting on the offset mount, but have the rifle in hand complete with spare mags, some nordic comp extensions and a surefire mag. I put a Larue mount and Trijicon 24R 1-4x24 on it with a Drissel cat tail. It's heavier than I had anticipated, but I absolutely love the gun. I haven't shot it in a match yet. I can't wait to really put it through it's paces. Hopefully there will be plenty of inertia with the Gateway 3-Gun initiative that Jeremy M and Aaron over at AP customs have going to bring some STL local 3-gun matches to the area so I can get my game on without any major travel expenses to boot!

Although I shoot Open in USPSA and love it, I'm about as new to 3-Gun as you can get. The current plan is to shoot open in 3-gun as well. I don't have a plan for a rig yet, and I look forward to learning more here.

Cheers,

Rob Malin
