So I've started to customize my 1911. I have a Rock Island Armory 1911A1 GI, so it was pretty barebones when I got it. Fires great, but I wanted a little cosmetic upgrades.

Bought a Wilson Combat skeletonized hammer (haven't put it on yet, more on that later), an aluminum trigger by Ed Brown, and some Duragrips tan grips on it.

The Hammer didn't come with a new strut or pin that holds it together, so I had to order them. Waiting on those to get here. Didn't want to punch out the old hammer pin, just in case I need the old hammer for something. Who knows.

The trigger took a bit of sanding with some 320 grit to make it work smoothly, but it runs like butter now (from what I can tell, haven't live fired it yet).

And the grips were a perfect fit, with a bit of sanding on the rough edges for my hands.

Anything else you can think of I should do to make this thing a firing beast?

Definitely open to suggestions :D

Nice piece! That thing deserves a trip to Heartland Outdoors in Edmond on June 5th for the opportunity to shoot the carry gun match.

I've never been there before. And what is the carry gun match? (Novice to shooting events)

Its only the hottest "organized shooting event" for first time shooters (as well as veterans). Look in the match announcement forum for all the details.

Let us know if you have any questions and we will get you rolling

You are not complete until you have shot an action shooting event and you will never be the same after you shoot one. It's the shituff!

Well I'm sold. I will be there for sure. Got to get a mag holster though. Any recommendations?
