I walked out the door tonight and there was a tom turkey in my yard. I went back inside and my first thought was grab the shotgun, followed by my second thought "you don't have a tag", followed by the next thought grab the Nikon.
When I looked out he was gone so I had an old box call that had no chalk on it and did some ridiculous sounding calling by my barn just to see if I could get a good camera shot. I saw some movement between my place and the road but only a glimpse.
Since I was only armed with a camera and it was cold I went back in.
I decided to step out on my back deck and hit my ridiculous call a few times and the hen went past me close enough to shoot with a camera.View attachment 4565View attachment 4566

Cool! Since there is no Tom with her, I'll bet she has been bred. If you have an area that gets evening sun, you might see her out bugging in the evenings.

You are right Dennis, I saw her again yesterday eve at about the same time. It would be nice to get a resident flock around here. Civilization is fast encroaching though, so they would probably be forced out pretty soon anyway.

Probably not. If they aren't pressured by hunters, coyotes, or feral dogs, turkey adapt to urban areas pretty good. There is a flock in town that comes by my moms house all the time. They are seen pretty regularly around the highway that runs through town. Fun to watch them.

I have a video of one that pecked on our window a couple of years back. Every morning just like clock work. :D

And Benjamin Franklin wanted to make them our national symbol. LOL..
