went online and purchased 3 new magazines for my Kimber Ultra Carry. being a noob i didnt realize that all 7 rd 1911 mags are not created equal. purchased some nice SS springfield 7 rd mags only to find that they are about 3/4" too long to fit flush in my kimber. although i havent actually shot with them i cycled a few rounds by hand and they seem to work just fine. They look goofy but if i'm only going to use these for CCW competitions, does it matter? OR should i just trade em off for kimber factory or wilson combat mags?

Looks like maybe you got Govt. length mags instead of Officer length.

I think the Kimber Ultra Carry is a Officer Length.

Officer Grip Length (2 5/8" between grip screws)
Government Grip Length (3 1/8" between grip screws).
One of my special needs kids need Officer model of mags on a recent group buy.

hmmm, after thinking about this for a day or two i might just keep the longer mags. They will be much faster and easier to fully seat during reloads than the flush mount mags.

careful with that, it's not hard to break the ejector by over inserting the mag.
If you look at the bottom of the frame front strap there is a little notch.
That notch is for the mag base to seat into.
Even on the extended mags for a full size 1911, there is a tab or the base extends up to seat in this notch to prevent it from being inserted too far & breaking the ejector.

You might want to consider putting some kind of base pad on the those mags if you're going to shoot at Heartland or other indoor facility. Dropping those on a concrete floor or hard surface, without a base pad, could pop the bottom plate off of the mag and leave you searching for spring and follower and worse yet, without a mag for the competition.

It happened to me!

You can also get pretty good mags that will fit properly directly from MecGar's website. That's where I get mine for my Ultra Carry.

Great advice guys, from both of you. To be honest I'd rather trade em off for some kimber factory mags that fit flush. Maybe heartland will have a couple and will trade. If not I'll just post em and see if anyone on here wants to trade.

Thanks guys.

any one been to Bills Outdoor Sports in Enid? if not you should definitely go. they swapped me out my government mags for some Kimpro mags even up. solved my problem and they even lost a little bit on the deal.

thanks Bills!

It's been awhile since I was in Bills outdoors, but I've always had a good experience there.
Don't know if the lady that works behind the counter is still there, but she is very knowledgeable about guns, and doesn't mind pulling guns off the rack so that one can handle them.

shes still there and they are always trying to get you to handle the guns. they are currently remodling and it looks much bigger and better. they had a stag 3G when i was in there yesterday and it almost came home with me. that is one badass rifle...
