Need Hog Scope for AR-15

I'm wanting to go hog hunting and was wondering what kind of scope you would recommend--preferably something that won't break the bank!! I have an AR-15 in .556. I don't plan on shooting out past 200 yards. Thanks

Since hogs are pretty much nocturnal, go with a low power, or red dot if your looking at heavy cover. Most shot opportunities will be right at dark or first light.

I have both Nikon and Leupold 50MM scopes on varmint rifles. I recently bought a German manufactured Schonfeld scope with illuminated reticle, and think that style of reticle is the way to go for the low light stuff. Its blue or red.

FYI, you can get a permit from the local game ranger to shoot hogs at night with night vision if that is any interest to you.

Good luck on your hunt and shoot every one of the things you see. They are vermin, and need to be exterminated.

The vortex strike fire is a good cheap red dot.

If you can afford it get a 1-4 power. Sometimes hogs hold up in the middle of an open field and the 4x is nice to have to hit them where you want.

Hogs internals are different from deer. Don't aim behind the shoulder. Aim at the ear (if you can) or anywhere along the vertical on the front legs and forward of that point (in the direction of the snout)

Hogs get an unjust label as being able to absorb a lot of rounds. The reason being is when people shoot them they are gut shooting the hogs. The hog will run off and die, but you will never know it.

Most hogs can be dispatched with a well placed round from any 22 center fire

Primary Arms 1-4 is under $200 with mount and has illumined reticle. Great scope imo.

This is the scope that Matt is talking about and we both have it. It is $120 plus the mount for about $60

Awesome thanks for the help!! I figured I needed to spend $400-500 for a scope but if I can do the job with less $ then I'm all for it lol! Then I can afford to put a scope on my other AR lol!! 2 for 1 yay!!
