It is possible that some of the people are not american citizens. To salute or place the hand over the heart might cause problems when they get back home. But as long as they are standing and not disruptive, I will settle for that.
The words to the star spangled banner are quite good, but but it is a difficult song technically to sing properly. It was written when men would gather socially at a tavern and many in those days had better trained voices.
