The wife and I are headed to okc tomorrow to do some new car shopping.
I HATE working with dealerships.
Probably going to be Ford, Honda, Toyota, or Nissan Suv 4wd.
Which dealerships are the high pressure ones around there that we need to stay away from?

Not familiar with the dealerships as we have not bought a new car in over 8yrs (wife's) and 14yrs (mine). Let me know what your experiences are too. We may be looking in the not too distant future. For my wife, we're thinking Nissan Altima.

Got any particular models you're looking at?

Do they not have car dealerships in Ponca City? :)

Seriously, if you want to avoid that crap, stop at Guthrie before you ever get to OKC

Good luck, brother

Bought my last truck over the period of a week. Never went to the dealership. 5% phone 95% text messaging. Easiest purchase ever. Contact a dealers Internet department and tell them what you're looking for.

CBR. Did the same thing with my truck. All I did was show up sign a couple papers and exchange keys. I was only in the dealership for about 15 minutes.

We have 2 dealerships in Ponca that sell the 4wd suv's we are looking for, but they don't have any inventory that we can test drive. Our newest vehicle is a 2001, so we have a lot of catching up to do.
I hate buying cars so bad, that my truck is a 95 Tacoma with 300k on it, and I don't want to get rid of it.

I'm a car salesman's nightmare, or best friend, depending on how you look at it. I usually know exactly what I want and what I will pay. They can make a quick sale or quickly lose a sale. I bought a new Civic last year. I was looking at a particular car. Salesman walked up and said I want to drive that one. I hadn't driven a Civic before, otherwise I wouldn't have even cared about a test drive on a new car. They gave me the keys. Ten minutes later I was back. I told the salesman to treat me right and I'd do the same. I asked if they matched internet prices. He said typically, yes. I gave him the lowest internet price I had found. They had added leather to this particular vehicle so I added on the cost of the leather to the internet price I found and deducted $400 and said I'd pay him that amount. This amount was quite a bit less than they had the car priced at. Told him that if any "processing fees" or anything like that were added that I'd show myself the door. He thought for about 3 seconds, shook my hand and said let's fill out the forms! From driving on the lot to driving off the lot, including doing a credit check and filling out financing forms, was a period of 45 minutes. Most of that was spent waiting to talk to the financing guy. Before buying that Civic, I was cussed off another lot for questioning the salesman's pricing ethics. He asked me if I had just stopped by or if I came to check out their huge sale of drastically reduced vehicles. I asked him if this certain car was drastically reduced. He said yes. I asked him if it was their usual practice to mark up a vehicle and then "drastically reduce" the price to an amount that is still above Blue Book value. He told me "get off my ****ing car lot, I don't need your ****ing elephant dung today." I said "gladly" and left.

I don't know of any good dealerships in OKC. What I do know is that you should know what you want and are willing to pay. Offer it and if they waste any of your time, walk right out the door you came in.

ahhh finally a subject i know something about.. i sold cars for enterprise for 4 years... stay away from david stanley they are notorious for screwing people, bait and switch, falsifying income, etc..if you are buying new, all you need to do is figure out which model you want, then drive back home, get on cars.com (or similar) and email the 10 (ford, Nissan etc..) dealerships in the area with the price you are looking to purchase the vehicle for. whichever one emails/texts/calls you back with the price (be sure to verify the unit number, so it is not a bait and switch car) drive up and buy it.. do not buy extended warranty. do buy GAP, but don't pay over 299 for it..

Gap insurance to cover the depreciated cost of the vehicle once you drive off the lot. Insurance generally only covers what it's worth. Say you buy a car for 20k wreck it on the way home. Insurance will only pay 18k because it's now used. Gap covers the extra 2k.

if you are financing (without putting 5-10K down) GAP will pick up the difference between what the insurance company will give you and what you owe on the loan, i have seen it save people, but i have also seen people without it get screwed... so lets say you finance 30K for a vehicle 1 week later some crazy person totals your car, the insurance company is going to give you around (roughly) KBB trade in value which would probably put you in a 4-7K hole that you would have to pay off.. GAP covers, well the gap... i have seen people without it owe thousands that they had to pay off on a car they didn't even own anymore... if you are putting money down then it is not applicable because you will owe less than what it is worth... make sense..

edit: just saw wildcat's post.. he said it better than i did in less words :)

I car-shopped OKC four years ago, and there wasn't a single dealership that wasn't an ugly experience. I ended up going to Carmax, and had a fantastic time, but all they have are great used cars. They did make all the new car dealers look like hammered dogshit, though.

There's been a lot of good advice posted here. I agree, educate yourself about what the fair market value should be. Stay away from the flamboyant characters. I would recommend that you try to do business close to home. Your local dealer supports the community by creating jobs and supporting local schools and civic organizations. Another plus is that, should you have trouble with your vehicle, the Dealer may be more motivated to help you than if you went way out of the market area to get it.
I have been in the Dealership business myself and my Brother owns and operates the Ford place in Eufaula. There are bad dealerships, to be sure, but most Dealers are just trying to make an honest living like everybody else.

I agree to stay away from extended warranties. Third party extended warranties are a HUGE crock.
The factory extended warranty's are well worth considering. You can negotiate on the price. Stay away from non-factory extended warranty.
Also, Mitch mentioned CarMax....I've heard good things about them as well.

Jeff, I agree about shopping local, and stopped at two of our local folks, but they don't have the inventory for us to drive, and I have this thing about actually driving what I'm going to buy. Even though its going to be my wife's daily driver, we know what we need, but in 11 years, there have been marked improvements in suspension, transmissions, etc. The "continously variable engaged transmission" that I just read about on a Murano brings to mind the old centrifical clutch. Guess that will have to be googled.
We have to have AWD, or 4WD just to get up our drive in the winter, and they said they would have to have one shipped in.

What ever happened to the old 327 c.i. with a 4 speed Muncie, and a Hurst shifter! LOL!

CARMAX. Personally speaking, the complete buying experience
was totally awesome, as compared to any other dealership.
