My "ATP" Rant

Well I have stayed away from this place due to the million complaints. Tonight I went to shoot with a friend and his family. The lady behind that counter told me she needed to see my .223 ammo so I showed her. Then I was told I could not shoot that ammo here and that she would have to hold it if I wanted to shoot. I asked why and I was informed I can only shoot ammo I buy there. NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. Will never give my business to that establishment again.

I have never had my ammo checked when shooting at ATP, however I only shoot on the pistol range. Maybe that is why.

I can add to this story.

I am going to test fire one of their used guns prior to purchase and bring my own ammo. However I'm not allowed to use my stuff because it's FMJ. So I have to purchase some of theirs and what do they sell me - yup you guessed it FMJ ammo - WTF???

Don't get me started about their stance on collecting sales tax on transfers.

Back when I would put up with their rudeness and poor customer service I was told only frangible rifle ammo could be fired on their range because their backstop cant handle the real stuff. Kinda defeats the purpose of having a rifle range if you can only shoot hard to find expensive ammo (they always seem to have some on the self for $1+ a round). Quickshot in West Ashley lets you shoot everything but tracers.

After I got fed with their nonsense I haven't set foot back in that place. There are too many other shops in the area that know how to treat people for me to waste my time at ATP. I always hear people talk about how they have a great selection but the internet has a much better selection in my opinion.

I understand the ammo issue. There are two parts:

1. Their backstop really can't handle normal rifle FMJ very well.
2. Their employees don't really know how to fix this, or understand the problem properly. So you get varying stories.

I find it interesting that they allow you to shoot 'their' .223 fmj. Again, I think you were probably damaging the backstop and they just didn't know their a$$hole from a hole in the ground.

They *should* mandate open lead tip ammo only on the rifle range. Easy to find, relatively cheap commercial loads, and expands/splashes on impact so no damage like an FMJ or SMK.

I've actually been told "no boat-tail bullets" before (no explanation why) and then they wanted to sell me their own surplus turk 8mm mauser... one of the hottest 8mm loadings out there, and steel-core fmj to boot.

Their customer service has always sucked. I had a gentleman question why I wanted to buy a certain pistol and I asked if he wanted to take my money or not. Since then I won't step foot in their shop. I hear to many complaints from others to waste my time and give them my money.

+1
If they were a sponsor I would have handled it with them and if that did not work out I would have talked to the mods about a sponsor abusing the members. You have NO idea what happened and everything that was done behind the scenes which is none of your business was done as perfectly as it could have been done. If you knew what actually transpired you wouldn't be so quick to judge. YOUR MODS ARE DOING THEIR JOBS.

Sooo... keep your head down, and don't ask questions...

Right....

I feel that some questions should be ask in PM's ///not open forum.

There are some things that just can not be discussed in from of the whole world.

Any time anyone has a question that maybe shouldn't be drug out into the general public. There is always PM's...

There is nothing useful to contribute to this disaster from myself or anyone else. All that remains is "this sucks" and "no, you suck" back and forth.

So, here's a picture:

This forum is a microcosm of a small gunshop.
