How do you get the recoil spring off of the guide rod on a m&p pro?

I put the fixed end in a soft-jaw vice and unscrewed the bolt on the guide rod with a miniature socket and ratchet. Control the spring when the bolt unscrews so you don't get a facefull.
Brownells has the ISMI flat-wound springs (in various weights) specifically for the M&P, that are far superior to the piano-wire aftermarkets.
