I notice that the rear sight on my M&P really fights for my attention. Is it a crazy idea to just color in the white dots with a sharpie or something? Eventually, I'd like to also put a Dawson FO in the front, and maybe replace the back with either an adjustable Dawson or a Sevigny rear, but that's another thing on a list of things waiting for money.

So anyway, I really have two questions...
1. Anything wrong with the idea of coloring in the dots on the rear sight?

2. Anyone have any thoughts on differences between the stock rear, Dawson adjustable and Sevigny rear. Shooting IDPA and USPSA.

Any thoughts on adjustable or fixed rear or is that just personal preference?

Fixed rear has less chance of breaking or coming unadjusted.

Adjustable rear lets you make corrections when those low left shots go away as you get better.

I have black nail polish over the dots on my compact's rear sights. I tried Sharpie but it kept coming off for some reason.

I like plain black sights, front and rear, for outdoor shooting. Tritium for indoors.

Adjustable rear sights are great, except that I've never found one with a large enough notch. On my STIs, I've taken apart the Champion rear sights and milled out the notch to 5/32", which is just about perfect.
