M&P 15-22

A buddy of mine bought an M&P 15-22 and wants a couple extra magazines. Does anyone know if you have to buy S&W magazines or if the Black Dog Machine magazines will work?

There was a gentleman at the Steel Challenge match on Sunday and he was shooting a M&P 15-22. I let him try one of my Black Dog Machine mags and they would not insert into the lower. I don't know if you have to buy the S&W mags or not, but I can confirm that the BDM mags will not work.

M&P15 = M&P15 mags.
Black Dog makes a different tower for thier drum to work with the M&P15

Yeah, those things are pretty picky about mags and ammo.

I bought my smith mags from midway. Always shot CCI blazer with no malfunctions. Pretty simple formula if you ask me.

Yep! The S&W mags are proprietary; but they're pretty easy to find.

I've run approximately 2k rounds through mine and the only issues I've had were with ammo.

I bought my extra mags at C&J Sporting goods in Bethany www.cjsportinggoods.com/ because they had them in stock.
I have never tried any other mags in mine.

I have to run the Full Metal jacket or Copper or Zinc plated ammo.
I tried several kinds of lead head ammo in mine and always had feeding problems.
The cheap copper or plated ammo runs great, in mine.

I run the Federal 550 bulk pack from Walmart through mine almost exclusively. I've probably got over 5k ot fhose through mine with only an occasional feed problem.

I have used CCI as well with good results too.

I don't have a M&P 15-22 but I do have a .22 LR AR. I feed all of my semi auto .22 LR guns a steady diet of Federal AutoMatch. I had a bunch of malfunctions on Sunday at the Steel Challenge match but it was due to my gun. Aside from that day I've never had a malfunction with this ammo in my guns. I've even gotten .35" groups from a bolt gun with it. It's $13.47 for 325 rounds at Walmart, so it's pretty dang cheap. The accuracy I get is quite good for bulk ammo as well as ammo at that price. I have 15 boxes of it stashed and keep buying more. You might give it a try.

We just went by C&J at lunch and they had about 25 of them for $19.99 each. Seemed like a good price so he bought a couple

We run Federal Automatch in my sons 15-22 too. When it was new we used only CCIs and had a few FTE, but it cleared up after about 500 rounds. It hasn't had a stoppage in the last 1500 rounds or so.

CCI Blazer is just hard to beat for bulk ammo. I think it's the exact same ammo as CCI Mini Mags except the bullets aren't copper plated. Wal Mart Federal Bulk is pretty good too. In my Nordic it seems that alot are underpowered and the CCI Blazers, Mini Mags and Fed bulk are a tad hotter than the rest and run better.
