Lost Guns at Boggy Head Rifle Range

Lost on 3/20/2013 at the Boggy Head rifle range:

- Ruger 10/22 Target, heavy barrel, custom stock, leapers 4x16x56mm AO scope, flash suppressor
- Beretta M9A1 9mm w/ 32 rnd magazine
- Ruger SR22, 22LR

The rifle was in a tan cloth case and the two handguns were in a black pistol case with some assorted ammo.

Not sure if they were removed from my vehicle while I was packing up for the day or if I just thoughtlessly left them at near the bench. I didn't realize they were missing until I returned home and unloaded the vehicle. What a bonehead thing to do, just hoping for some fellow shooter / good samaritan to return them.

Cash reward for their return or information leading to their return. No questions asked of the person returning them - I can match serial numbers.

Sir: If they have been gone this long...you better make out a Police report...

Have you called DNR ?

Someone might have contacted themabout found guns...It is worth a try.

Also, have you put an ad on Craigslist...Might help.

This may be only legend but I heard it from a reliable source: Many, many years ago there were some n'er do wells who hid at the top of Philson's Crossroads range and when the range went cold for everyone to walk the 100 yards to check their targets, the thugs would scoop up all the guns left on the tables and haul a$$.

I agree with the suggestions to report to LE. The agencies I'm familiar with regularly check pawn shop records and recover a lot of stolen property that way. They'll need the serial numbers to find yours if that's where they end up. Best of luck getting them back!

Thanks for the responses and well wishes. I have filed a report with the Sheriff's office. I will also check with DNR, had not thought of that.

Still hoping for some shooter courtesy from whoever has them, even in light of these crazy times of firearms, ammo shortage...maybe especially in these times.

Some tips that I should have followed:

Never shoot alone
One person always stays back at the bench during cold range times
Double / triple check the area before you leave, have the second person do the same
Do a quick inventory once you are all packed up
Don't leave your vehicle unsecured while you go back and forth loading or unloading

I hope no one else experiences a similar loss.

Sorry to hear about your loss..................I had a scary experience at Twin Ponds some number of years ago....I was shooting alone when several "thugs" came up and wanted to play with my guns....I had a 1911 cocked and locked in my belt in front that they didn't see....I pulled it, pointed, and asked who wants to play........Fortunately they pulled back and left in a hurry....I notified the CCSD, but I did not get the license plate number.....

When I am at the range I will always have a gun on my person and out of sight, but easy to grab......

The ranges are operated and maintained by the USFS - Forest Service, you probably need to check with their local office, and law enforcement officers as well
