Looking into 3 Gun / Shotgun

[font=Calibri']I’m trying to decide if I want to make the investment to start shooting 3 gun. I’m fairly new to shooting sports so I don’t know a lot of people to ask. I have shot USPSA, some steel challenge and a few pistol/rifle multi-gun. I have a decent rifle and a 9mm SS gun, not the best for multi-gun I know, ( I plan to buy a limited gun later) so all I need for now is a shotgun. I’ve been looking at the Mossberg 930JM as my shotgun but haven’t heard much about them. They look good and Jerry uses it so…? Another thing that’s a little overwhelming is loading method. Load 4, load 2, taking a deuce, quad load, dropping deuces? I think I like the double deuce method (or whatever it’s called), but the Carbon Arms caddies cost about $10+ for every shell you want to carry. So I guess what I’m asking is what is the best way to get started into 3 gun without dropping $5k?[/font]

From a newbie. I have shot three, 3 gun matches...
I don't yet own any shotshell caddies.
I load shotgun shells from my jacket pocket.
It is slow but doable.
I am trying to play and have fun on a budget.

I bought a used 20 guage (CZ720), that had an extended tube on it.
Great shotgun, but get the CZ712, I have some trouble with the longer shots with the 20 guage.

The 930JM pro is an AWESOME gun, but good luck finding one. I had one for a couple months but had to sell it :(, now im back to borrowing gear from a friend.
 
We are all beginners from a time frame stand point. The first 3 gun in Oklahoma I shot was Back In 2010.

We have a bunch of very generous shooters here at our matches. So don't go out and buy a bunch of stuff. Bring what you have to the next match. Let us know in the forum what your bringing and we will all bring extra guns and gear and squad you up with some if our more experienced guys to help get you going.

Watch some of the YouTube videos on my channel or the other guys here so you have an idea of what to expect. Don't hesitate to ask a question you may feel sounds stupid because we have all been there and chances are someone else has the same questions you have.

We are all beginners? I think a few of us had already been 3-gunning for 20 years before your first one in 2010. And just so you know the first 3-gun in Oklahoma was put on in 2005.
 
Come out to the pro am this weekend and you can run my M2 and check out some of the different ways to load, ohh and get some trigger time on the hand blaster

I was going to put an asterisk but I figured you and curly would understand.
 
Just don't ask Curk Bornelious for advice. He'll have you shooting with a Colt SAA, a Winchester 30-30, and an old pump action shotty. He will probably insist on chaps too... Don't ask, its just his thing.

That is when your are real tired when you are walking.
You leave 3 tracks, your left foot track, your right foot track, and your ass tracks.
 
Thanks Corley. I'm going to try to get to the pro-am this weekend but it's not looking good. I have a bunch of 12ga ammo thats been sitting in my closet for a while.
 
I've heard that CZ712 is a better shotgun than the 930, I'm gonna just put a guess out there that the 930 Jerry uses ain't the one your gonna get off the shelf. I hear there are a few people on this board that can CZ712 work most of the time. I have a soft spot for the CZ most of it started when I couldn't afford a Benelli and well I can afford one now and still shoot my ol' turd 712 and yes it has crapped on me twice but hey it seems to hit (most of the time lol) what all the other shotguns shoot, it doesn't like Winchester bulk ammo for sure!

I know the Benelli has been out there and is a proven shotgun with 3-gun and if you have the change I say go for it! if your a touch unsure and don't have real deep pockets I say the CZ is a better choice than the 930 or FN.

Chaote has some reather inexpensive shotshell caddies and they seem to be working fine, there are cooler options out there but hey if it works why change it? Most of my stuff is kinda ho hum, I still shoot a plastic Glock, a cheapo CZ712 shotgun, and an AR that I pieced together and probably don't have that much money tied up in my stuff, I don't have people saying dude you have some cool elephant dung! BUT ya know I have a good time shooting :)

Pretty sure you show up at a 3-gun and dang near everyone will let you try our stuff and I say that's your best choice, you can see what you think about stuff and see what you like. Later,

You live in Collinsville, I live in Owasso. I will probably shoot tomorrow at USSA in the morning. I plan to try and attend the Pro-Am also. I have the JM Pro shotgun. You're welcome to shoot it tomorrow or Sunday. Hit me up if you want. Brandon @ 918-720-8406.

Thanks for the offers everyone. Sorry I havent responded my phone is crapping out on me and goes crazy if I try to post with it. I'm going to try to hit a pro-am or multigun in January, December is already booked with family stuff, unless I can find something this weekend.
 
The notch keeps the shells centered when the lifter is up. It's not necessary when the gun is upright but when its turned at an angle the shell can roll side to side and fail to feed.

At least that's how it was explained to me.
