I got to shoot a surgeon rifle in 6.5 creedmore Sunday, this was three shots at one hundred yards.

I absolutely love Surgeon Rifles. They kicked my ass month after month at okcgc club F T/R matches. I have no issues with 6.5 creedmore. I believe it is very similar to 6.5x47. Both are great cartridges. I shoot and still believe in 308, but the F Open guys whipped everyone at 600 and 1,000 yds with .284 win. Similar to 308, the 284 win lobs a slow (under 3,000 FPS) softball, that is very predictable and easy on barrels.

I think we are arguing BMW vs Mercedes of long range rifles calibers. Everyone has their personal preference. All of them shoot great to 1,000 yds and beyond with the right bullet and load.

F-Class at OKCGC is monthly as far as I know. I'm planning to get some heavier .223 bullets so I can shoot it. Apparently 55 grainers and such will drift all the way over to another person's target under certain wind conditions. Some people do it with irons, so no point in me not doing it just because I only have a 1-4X scope.

I was fortunate enough to represent NATC Patuxent River MD at the Navy east coast championships 90 - 94(yes I'm that old)in Damnneck VA(At then DEVGRU range now Seal Team 6). The rifle comp at that time was iron sights, 200, 300 & 500, standing, kneeling & prone. I was shooting a glass bedded H-Bar M1A, but two next to me were lobbing 5.56 at the 500 yards targets which were 12' x 12' and hitting their neighbors more than their own. I know it's a diferent world now it terms of 24" fluted stainless free float barrels and match ammo, but in those days shooting Govt ball 5.56 ammo at 500 from an AR was like throwing rocks.
