http://www.longrangehunting.com/forums/f22/4r-rifle-club-long-range-shooting-event-21213/

This is a one day event w/one class. It will be held on May 5th @ 8:00 am approx 5 miles north of Alex, OK. If rained out it will be held on Sunday May 6th or the 12th if that is rained out.

Rifles must be 30 cal or less. Weigh less than 25# and be manually fired. No rail guns. No limit on optics. It is $45 to enter and you can enter the event no more than twice. I think he is going to limit it to 60 entries so you might want to hurry and get in.

Ranges are 100, 250, 400 and 500 yds. There will be 3 highly reactive targets (3"-4" ballons)@ each distance. 100 yd targets are worth 20 pts each, 250 yd worth 30 pts each, 400 yd worth 40 pts each and 500 yd worth 60 pts each. Each shooter will have 14 rounds and a 10 min time limit.

The top six shooters will return to the bench w/the slate wiped clean and shoot the same course of fire. In the event of a tie, the shooters tied will go to the bench w/all targets reset and will have 6 rounds and 4 min to score the most points they can.

The contact for this event is Rick Reeves. He can be reached @ 405-224-3426. If no one answers leave a message and he will return your call.

Thanks for posting this here Adam. That looks like a fun match. I wonder how I'd fair with my .223 AR15 and a 6x scope? Probably not so bueno.

Where do these long range guys hang out online? Just Snipers hide??? If so I am suprised that none of them frequent any of the local forums.

Hi guys. I'm B.J. Bailey and I work at Gene Sears Supply in El Reno. I am good friends w/Rick Reeves and have been to every match he has put on. It is a great match to go to and you will meet alot of good people. It has been balloons in the past but this year he is switching to clay pigeons on a shoot n c backer. He originally mirrored it off the Varmint Hunter Jamboree. It has come to be dominated by more of the BR and FClass rigs. That's not my game but I still take my tac rifle out and give em heck.

There is also a steel match coming up early in June. Not sure the exact date but it will be up by Woodward somewhere. We are also putting on a match Sept 17th down by Gracemont. I will post an announcement for it.

Good to hear from you Mr. Bailey. I was the one the other day that talked to you on Snipers Hide. What time does the match start? Do you possibly know the round count? I really really want to go and plan on taking 2 rifles and picking out which one to shoot that day.

I would bring around 50 rounds. If you shoot the same gun twice and make it to the shoot off that will be 42 rounds. If there are any ties that require breaking you will need a few more than that. I am going down there next Sunday to practice a little if you want to tag along. I have sold my rifle and am waiting on a bbl for my next one so I've had to borrow one and need a little time w/it befor the match.

If anyone else is going, I've found out that the sign in is at 7:30am and entry fee is $50.

Small recap from the match. I had a blast. This was my first organized long range match and everyone there was very encouraging to me and everyone else. I met BJ in El Reno and I followed him down there. The rifles there were awesome. From BR rifles to tactical style rifles. About half of the rifles were using suppressors and that was neat to actually hear how quiet they are in real life (I'm for sure getting one now). I didn't have a spotting scope for my spotter to use and everyone was nice enough to offer one to use. We shot off of concrete benches which was difficult for me to get used to, because that was the first time I ever shot off a bench. There were 4 clay pigeons at each distance 100, 250, 400 and 500. You had 18 rounds and 15 minutes to score the 16 targets at your choosing. The 100 yard targets were worth 10pts, 250 - 20pts, 400 - 30pts and 500 - 45pts. The wind was very challenging and made it fun as well as difficult. I had a lot of fun and met some new shooters and can't wait until next year.

Man it was windy A's hell that day. I wish I could have come out to watch this. I'd wager and say that long range guys from OK do very well nationally because of the incredible amount of wind that we always have here?

Glad you could make it out. This used to be one of my favorite matches but as I've evolved as a shooter I'm now more set up for the tactical/practical game. You shoulda stuck around, we laid down and did some "real" shooting when it was over ;) Like you I am much more comfortable that way.

I was figuring in a 12 to 15 mph wind. But it was kinda swirly. I think every shot could have been a different wind call. BJ, I wanted to stay around, but the guy that came with me needed to get home to his kiddos. I think the tactical/practical type matches would be real fun and that is pretty much what I would like to get into. But i got to get a lot better at reading the wind before I can feel comfortable shelling out the bigger entry fees. If your ever up my way south of Hennessey your more than welcome to come shoot at my range. It's not as nice as Mr. Reeves setup, but it goes out to 700 and by the end of spring it will go out to 1000. Jesse, if I ever get done with this job where I'm not working 6 days a week we are going to have to put together a small long range "fun day" at my place for Boomer Shooter.

I want to drag the '03A4 out to one of these some day, won't be anywhere close to being competitive, but man what fun!
