Light Primer strikes

So the other weekend I had this issue with my AR at a match. I can't for sure say if I used bolt release or used charge handle to load a round into rifle. I'm pretty sure I had bolt locked back before inserting mag.

When the buzzer would go off. I would pull the trigger and click. I pulled the charge handle and a round would come out and then bang. The first time this happened I probably shot 30ish rounds with no issue. The next stage same thing and that time I would say 15-20 rnds were fired. Once again no issue except the first round. The second stage I found the first round and it had a real light primer strike on it.

Someone at the match said he had the same problem before and said that it was his buffer spring. He said after stretching the spring out the issue stopped. I have no clue but would think if it was spring then the issue wouldn't occur on first round. And of course like a dummy I didn't try and replicate the issue after the match while at the range.

My AR has around 1500-2000 rounds at the most. Same ammo the whole time

if the buffer spring is weak & you're riding the bolt forward with the charge handle, it may not be going fully into battery.

Maybe totally unrelated but my brother was having problems with the bolt not being fully closed after being told to load and make ready. The remedy that worked for him was to add graphite to the buffer tube, the graphite made the gun cycle smoother and much quieter. The gun ran reliably when shooting, he was probably being gentle while chambering the first round in the make ready process.

I keep waiting for the day Burke starts Ninja cocking the AR.

Do you have the JP speed hammer or have you ground off your hook?

I had another guy mention it could be a mag problem. I did just replace my mags before match and am not sure if I took out 2 rnds out after loading them. That would be the most likely problem

First thing i would check is the adjustable gas block , If you cant adjust it up and make it cycle harder (assuming its not fully adjusted out already)
Check gas block position .
yes I know its a dumb thing ...The reason i say is that the gas blocks on ar-15 /ar-10 get the hottest ... Aluminum expands at a greater rate than steel so ... It does come lose and when the barrel cools it can snug down again .. you wont know until you see it happen .
2000 rounds ... I would put in a new buffer spring also .
When you say "same ammo"
are we talking reloads .... Or factory ammo .....5.56 or .223
Im assuming your using antitolt followers in your mags as well.

If it does turn out to be a buffer spring issue don't stretch it out, just buy a new one.

why would it be the gun if it is only happening on the first round after lamr unless its a mag issue that occurs when its topped off? you sure you were letting that bolt go into battery hard enough? i had similar problem when i started 3 gun, so now i do the same thing every time (not sure if it is right but it has been working so far) i load the mags with last round on right always, jam it in the gun, let the bcg slam home as hard as it can, pull mag and make sure round on right is gone and then put mag back in, tap it hard and then pull on it to make sure its all the way home.... if that isnt correct, someone correct me...

That's pretty much what I do. After loading I pull the mag out to verify that the round to the right is gone and the round on top is now to the left.

Yup. Springs are cheap. Buy a set for the trigger/hammer while you're at it.

Ive come across this before, its to do with the position of the sun when Neptune and Mars line up

Gun isnt cycling all the way, maybe.

Buffer spring needs to be replaced.

Primers are high.
