Lets talk Optics, AR on Way?

I am going to have to spend money on both. At least I can get the optics, can't say the same for the ammo. Good advice, thanks.

I am now rethinking the vortex as it is much heavier than most of the other scopes. I am changing my mind about every 5 minutes now. Looking at the 1-4 options as well.

I got my Vortex 1-6 HD, it is so sweet. Glass is so clear. Eye relief is about 3-4 inches. On 1 power the field of view is so wide. The red dot in the scope has adjustment from bright to dim depending on the sunlight. It is a little heavy but when I shot it this weekend I did notice it. Hope this helps a little.

If you go 1-4 go cheap cause your gonna want a 1-6 Swaro eventually.

All this talk about optics is starting to make me nervous! After shooting service rifle at 600 yards and even a few 1000 yard matches, I figured if I can see it, I can hit it. But I'm getting this nagging feeling I'm about to have my ass handed to me, along with a side dish of humble pie! But isn't tac irons just for iron sights? Or are red dots considered iron sights now?

Hitting it is easy. Doing it in fractions of seconds is the hard part.

Jesse, How many extra Swaro's you got? Send me one to look at. I will send it right back.
I have two too few. Put a little red light outside your picture window about 3'. It looks just like that only clearer.

Jesse is right
Even if you get a vortex shoot it for a year then upgrade you gotta start somewhere.
I am currently running a 1-4 vortex overall I have been happy, the only bad is bumping the turrent knob and realizing it after the stage. In that 400-700 price range I would do it again I do plan on upgrading to a swaro.
alternative is get the Leupold prismatic and run "irons"
Good Luck
the most important choice was jumping into 3 gun

Today I had a chance to review the 1-6x24 scope line with Chris the owner of Sport Optics / Outdoor Outfitters in Hammond, LA. We looked at the Vortex JM-1 $1400, Swarovski BRT $2469, and Kahles G4B $2722. First, these are all very nice scopes. Physically, the one main difference is that the Vortex is much heavier than either of the Kahles or Swaro which seem to be pretty close. However, this could easily not be noticeable if all of the scopes were mounted. Optically, the Swaro and Kahles are amazing and seem to have a slight edge over the Vortex. The illumination intensity of both the Kahles and Swaro are excellent. The battery of the Vortex was out but in other reviews the illumination intensity seems to be very good. Swaro gets the edge on the reticle. It is simple and easy with the dots between the hash. Just seems less clutter. It also has available windage and a free ballistic app for my iphone. How the illumination functions is where the Swaro is far superior to the others. The Swaro has a switch for night, Day and Off. It has buttons for intensity settings that stay. It has an auto off feature that if need be can be disabled. This system just has a lot of nice features that the others do not. So I went with the Swarovski Z6I. The Kahles does have a built in throw lever which I purchased for the Swaro. So the price for the Swaro is a bit less than the Kahles even with the throw lever and you get all of the illumination features of the Swaro, and in my opinion a better reticle. Optically, it would be hard to say if either Kahles or Swaro is better than the other.

We used the new ultralite, extended Nightforce UniMount A192. This is a permanent mount no levers as I don't plan on taking the scope on and off. They mounted it all up and I am good to go.

I will post pics a bit later.

If you have questions about these scopes or any other optics questions, don't hesitate to contact these guys. I am in no way affiliated with these guys just a happy customer. I am lucky because the store close to me.

My math has the Swaro $253 cheaper than the Kahles. Please tell me you didn't pay that for a throw lever.
