My hunting buddy and I put in a week ago. I've been putting in for the elk hunt at the Witchita Mountains since 1970 and have never been drawn.
Deer hunts, I've drawn Salt Plains, Hickory Creek, McAlester Army Ammunition depot, (love using 1000 lb bombs as a deer blind), and Western Wall over the years.
One of my buddy's drew the elk hunt 5 years ago after putting in for it as long as I have. It was interesting to note the demographics of the hunters that were there.
Seems like 30% had put in for the first time, and were in their 20's to 30's.
The rest were 55+ all the way to one gentleman that was 92. He and his wife came to the hunt, harvested a cow, and had it hung and quartered in a short period of time. I suspect it wasn't their first rodeo. LOL...
