Just looked at the weather forcast, they a saying its going to be a elephant dung strom. :)
No, as far as I can tell Mike just wants to have actual informative threads in the technical subforums without a bunch of shitposts making it hard to glean information from them. Which is a good idea.

I was starting to troll him for backseat modding but whatever. He's right.

DHoddy was apparently serious, but who takes anything PG says seriously?!?! :P

Excellent point! Sig'd.

You should do the old-style Colt bluing:

Though I think the process involves cyanide so some liberal might pitch a cat lady fit about it.

That sir, is the sexiest gun I've ever seen

I had a Dixie Gun Works Catalog from the early 1970's for years... but it wandered off someplace.

The old guy who started that concern was Turner Kirkland. Turner loved percussion guns and early Colts, etc. In the old Catalog he'd archived every old blue, brown and case hardening formula he could find. Turner made it a mission to meet and pick the brain of every old time gunsmith he could find- and he knew em all from Maine to the Carolinas, Georgia and Tennessee.

I noticed that the print version they have now... all those recipies are no longer published. I guess the liability was just too much.

thats all I was getting at; just let grampa vent and get it out of his system. thanks, thats all, lets carry on.

If I remember right, the key to the deep-looking finishes is multiple applications. Slow rusting, boiling, and carding numerous times. Acid fume bluing is much faster.

That old colt is a thing of beauty, me want one!

And since everyone else gits their stinky opinion I say they should all be bead blasted stainless- cause thats sexy and tacticool!

Good luck on the new finishing process, cant wait to see what you can do with it! If you figure out how to make something look like that old colt I'll ask my wife for my balls back so that I can pay you to make me one.

Dont know if I can get that blue effect, most of the no.7 formula jobs that I have seen are more black than blue. However I did pick up a trick from an old gunsmith 1950's era that I am going to try and see what I get from it. We are also going to be looking at charcoal bluing, parkerizing and cera-kote finishing as well as having Chris Peters at metaloy do our hard chrome work and we my also have the ablity to nickle plating in house as well, not sure yet on that however.

Thanks for the input guys, "Uncle Mike" deep breaths brother...:) I get it.

Just got the call form the shipping company, picking that bad boy up today......pray for me! :()
