I've never wanted a folding knife this bad in my life

My current favorite, and you can buy one for $30

EZ, I though you told me you already had one of the limited editions ordered? WTH man. I know you told me that on the other forum. Are you playing games with my mind?

I need a good folder for daily carry. Must be under $50 and have a pocket clip. What do you recommend?

My answers:

Kershaw Leek
Kershaw Needs Work
Kershaw Oso Sweet (really cheap one, but good)
Kershaw Avalanche

One of those. Leeks comes in many configs - I'm partial to my G10/S30V Leek with plain blade, but have several.

Lately though, I've been carrying my CRKT "Desert Cruiser" and like it a lot.

If Kershaw would improve the locking mechanism just a *smidge* on them, the Spec Bump and Speed Bump would be super sweet. All they need to do is make that channel holding the locking post about 1/10th" longer, and make the spring in there stronger (several more coils), so that it locks up like a bank vault. As it stands, get a little grit and lint in there, and you could lose a finger under hard use.

And I just cancelled my order - still hasn't showed up, Robert young Pelton (owner of DPX Gear) has been through a lot of drama, DPX and ESEE split-up, RYP got kicked off of Blade Forums as a moderator (and had his section removed), the knives made it over here from Italy to CA and then had to be returned due to a design flaw and I keep getting told "1 more week" so I finally cancelled it.

Looking for a good pocket knife again now.

Not a folder, but if you want a real knife that will hold an edge, and is insanely sharp, you have to check out McCroskey Custon Knives.
mccroskeyknives.com
My Elk skinner that is custom fit to my hand, and has a Rockwell hardness of 65 will hold an edge for a long time.

Comes with a sheath of your choice, custom tooled to your specifications.

I've heard reliable reports of the knives skinning 5 elk without re-sharpening.

BTW, resharpening is a lifetime benefit at no charge except for shipping. How good is this?

+ the company is in Stillwater Ok.

Here is a poor pic of my elk skinner. My name is engraved on the knife and sheath. All included in the price.
The leather guy is from Glenpool Ok.

I've already got a few fixed-blades

Who makes your kydex sheaths?

All of them came with the knives (with the exception of the Busse on the right - I ordered one online for a Swamp Rat Warden and modified it to fit the Busse Game Warden). I can't even remember who made it.

ESEE makes injection-molded sheaths for their knives (the left one). TOPs usually puts good kydex or leather sheaths with their knives, and Bill Coye has someone make his kydex - and crap, I can't remember that either.

Looks like I'm not much help :)

Hey I just saw this man - yeah, I had one ordered, but gave up on it. I have found that I disagree with a lot of what RYP has to say and his business practices are less than up-to-par in my opinion. I might buy a used HEST/f later from someone else for under $150, but I'm not spending $250 to wait 6 months and deal with someone that I don't necessarily see eye-to-eye on (he's written a few negative comments about our troops in some of his writings).

Sort of makes me sick to see how the whole thing went down. I actually liked Lion Steel, DPX Gear, and ESEE when this whole thing started out and I know look at all three companies in a different light. I might still buy from ESEE, but I'm not convinced they are the nice-guy in some of the falling out that happened between all of the companies.

As much as I hated Ontario for what they did to RAT Cutlery, I tend to wonder after all of this if RAT wasn't partially responsible for some of the garbage that went on behind the scenes to cause the lawsuit.

Anywho, I'm now looking for a folder and I'm probably going to sacrifice the Bill Coye Ridgeback to get one (much as I hate to).

Honestly I see ESEE as being the High Road of the companies. I may have not looked into it as much as you have but I think their integrity is the highest.

Oh Also I am trying to become a dealer for them. But honestly even if they turn me down I still feel that way. I just wanted to disclose that so I didn't look like I was just pumping them up to sell product.

Let me know how that goes man - I'll buy some ESEE knives from you.

Here's some of the knives I got in an attempt to replace the HEST/f:

The PackRat (orange) is still on sale for $29 at knifecenter.com and is a good knife for that price.

I'd say that the Tyrade is easily a replacement for the HEST/f since its got a 154CM blade with a fused D2 edge and titanium scales (with Carbon-Fiber inlays) and it was actually the same cost as the production HEST/f (and showed up from KershawGuy on blade forums in like 2 days).

The Kershaw rake was a blem'd model and only cost me $65 shipped - fused D2 steel edge and G10 scales with an assisted opener is a pretty good deal at $65 (from Kershaw Guy).

I'm blown away by the quality on the Spydercos - though I have already sold the Gayle Bradley - which is the larger one and ordered a Spyderco Caly 3 w/laminated steel blade, and carbon-fiber scales.

I also picked up a Benchmade Bone Collector Small with Green/Black G10 scales and the Axis lock. I'll post a pic of it when I get a chance.

You guys are freakin killin me I've been stashing cash for months and I might as well sale my upper and lower I just purchused SH##!!!!

SOG FTW

Shh on the assisted opening, it slows me down anyways!

You know... I've never been a fan of Sog knives, but I actually find myself looking to get one from them just to try them out. I'm seriously looking at a Buck Vantage Pro - its a great value (S30v steel heat-treated by Paul Bos, flipper, G10 scales)

I've become very picky about my knives throughout this whole "getting into knives/steel" process and I find that I really like (for EDC folders) the following:

1. Knives with a 3" blade
2. Knives with high-end steel in the blade
3. Frame-locks/liner-locks
4. skinnier leaf, spear, or drop-points
5. Jimped Finger Choil and jimped Thumb-ramp
6. Textured or 3D G10, Linen Micarta, or grippy Carbon fiber scales

I've already gotten rid of the Gayle Bradley (large carbon-fiber Spyderco), and the knife I picked up to replace that one (a Caly 3), in favor of a Spyderco Perrin PPT. We'll see how that goes.

I'm liking the Benchmade small Bone-Collector Axis folder right now, but the upswept drop-point bothers me a little - makes for a fatter tip than I normally like.

Here's some pics with my J-frame for comparison:

This SOG was pretty dang nice! I'm typically more into kitchen cutlery vs going all out on folding knives and I used to be fine with anything - cuz I could keep it razor sharp and have no worries. This SOG should last me a long time and I really like how thick the blade is at the spine. Btw, I like Tanto edges and appreciate that no one started bashing!
