Ithaca model 51

Ok was in my local gun store after work today pick up an looked at a Ithaca model 51 semi auto 12ga gun. Everything seem to be ok with it the bore was nice and clean action felt great. I have never own a semi auto shotgun and was wondering does tr trigger stay back till u load a shell? Also the action wouldn't lock back but I might have been doing it wrong? And of they will allow me to take the gun apart befor I buy it... How does one take a semi auto shotgun apart?

ive had a pump sinse i was 18. my wife gave me a special edition national wild turkey federation Browning auto. my first auto and ive had no problems.

ive added and removed a choke tube by taking off the mag spring nut. just to look i slid off the forward grip. looked foreign to me so i put it back together.

I've owned a Remington and Winchester autoloading 12 ga shotguns and functionality and disassembly was different on both guns. Never having owned an Ithaca I can't offer you anything else.
