Is it too fart fetched to think that I could trade my Howa M1500 .30-06 for an decent or semi decent AR?

I feel like I need someone to really hold my hand in all this - cuz I end up picking up some crappy parts and learning by mistakes is too expensive.

I know that I can easily get a JP Lower assembly for $500 shipped
http://www.jprifles.com/document_pdfs/JP15%20Lower%20Order%20For_238.pdf

but what about the upper - I'm smart but this shiz is too crazy.

Saw the part kit on the lower for 479 (some peeps have piece built them for much cheaper) - but I want a solid gun *On a tight budget - meaning it might take a while to get everything, but I'm impatient, so I might have to skimp on some things.

What I would like is

1. Light Weight (something I can hold up for a while and still keep very steady)
2. Accurate and Precise
3. Reliable - minimal jams with lube and cleaning
4. low recoil - I want 2 trigger pulls, 2 shots on paper, 1 hole or them to be connected
5. IRON SIGHTS - GOOD OLE FASHIONED MILSPEC 25M/300M ZEROED (just like they issued on the M16A2

Good Reliable trigger
6 position stock (I got really long arms)
IRON SIGHTS
LOUD AS HELL Muzzle Brake - just like Chris Andersons!!!!

Hook me up with links and advice, help me!!!! please!!!!!

You can build a lower w/ a JP trigger for less than $300.

Find you a 20" upper for $400 or so, $90 for the comp, file down your front sight.

< $800 total.

rifle length gas system
low mass BCG
muzzle brake
fixed stock

what ever upper/lower you can afford.

JP- this low mass BCG has your name engraved on it.

Whats the matter JP? your AK can't surpass all of you expectations? :)

Can't build an AK to my specs - if I could get a 20in AK Barrel with rifle length hand grip I might be in business. But it is easier to build an AR in America :(

buy stripped lower...istall parts kit....done :D

You can get a stripped lower for less than $75 if you look around. An LPK can be had for another $75 or less. Add the buffer/tube/spring/stock of your choice.

This is the way you should go...

LOKI also just stared producing a forged upper/lower set as well. They will sell the upper or lower to BoomerShooter members for $75 each with a minimum of $5 on shipping. I will start another thread on these to keep them straight as I think we are going to have a lot of action on these.

DPMS LPK $53

I realize it's not at all optimal, but I got a kit from Cold Hand Arms, and it includes everything but a rear sight. This one: http://coldhandarms.com/zencart/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=29&products_id=137
No xfer fee. It's enough to get started.
If you can afford it, you should buy the pieces that are optimal for shooting and put them together.
This thread has a good list of the optimal parts.

I just ordered all parts for a complete lower from Palmetto State Armory when they had their Father's day sale.

Stripped Lower: $49.95
PSA Lower Parts Kit: $42.99
PSA Classic Stock Kit: $49.95

Shipping and Insurance all totaled equaled $158.68 Pretty good deal for a complete lower.

I'm going to use it for the Nordic .22 upper when they come in.

Not up to 3-gun components spec but it would be a start and you could replace fire control group, stock, etc later on.

Would spending 500 on a JP complete lower be worth it - or do I go after a mik spec lower - like Loki and either a jp trigger or RRI trigger?

And the group buy on the 17in m4 barrel?

I don't personally see the need in a $500 lower.
I'm currently using a Quentin Defense billet lower for my 3-gun and it's been absolutely perfect and reliable.
The billet lower cost me $130, the lower parts kit was $60, and the buttstock/tube/buffer was $110.
So $300 total would leave $200 for a badass trigger to replace the one in the kit, and if you went with a forged lower you would have $40 more to spend on other parts.
