I'm wanting to do some swapping and trading to get into a .308 AR. Should I build, should I buy, what do I need to be looking for?

I brought this I don't know what makes a 308 good but it hits stuff far away and close up. And it costs about 3 times as much every time I pull the trigger as my AR-15

As it goes with anything, what do you plan to do with it? 3gun, pigs, deer. That will drive most decisions.

There are 2 different styles, DPMS/SR25 and Armalite. Stick with the DPMS pattern as the parts are more prevalent and Pmags rule. Both of mine were way over gassed from the factory, JP adjustable blocks helped there. Factory DPMS barrels work well, I'm sure JP's barrels are fantastic as are the other quality barrel makers.

PSA has started to sell their own 308 parts as well. With the sale a few days ago you could have a 16" 308 for 600 bucks.

But, my end result.... I would love for it to handle like my 3gun AR15. But shoot bigger bullets and have a longer scope on it.

Have you considered an AR15 in 6.8 SPC or a 6.5 Grendel? It will give you all you need to kill deer or pigs out to 400 yards and farther if you're good. I prefer these guys to hunt with because they will save you at least a pound maybe 2. Better handling and easier to buy parts, none of the dpms/armalite interchangeably issues.

If you end up building an AR10 platform I had a good experience with a mega arms stripped upper and lower set. They solved some of the interchangeably issues.
