I am going to buy one of these rifles before I leave this sh*tbox, which one do you guys recomend. I've read the reviews on both and they cost about the same(depending on what site you hit) Let me know what you think....bitches, gripes, or the I wouldnt trade it for nothing. I'm sweet on the Zastava but open to sugestions fellas.

The PAP doesn't have a chrome-lined barrel.

Zastava makes great guns.

Century is a terrible company. Thankfully they merely imported these guns and don't have their cadre of drunken monkeys touch them.

All that being said... do you know what "generation" this Zastava PAP is? If it is a Generation One ( PAP ) then I would avoid it. It has a single-stack bolt and feed ramp. If it is a Generation Two ( N-PAP ) or Generation Three ( O-PAP ) then it will have a correct double-stack bolt and feed ramp. If it is a Generation Three then it will come with the magazine well already opened up to "normal" configuration and can accept "normal" AK-47 magazines. If it is Generation One or Two then it will be single-stack.

I like AKs (hence my nomme-de-guerre) and I would pick the Zastava O-PAP (generation 3).

I just realized that this will probably be your first (or only) AK and you don't have half a dozen in various configurations like me.

Get the Romanian M10-762 if that is the case. It is more versatile and usable and can be practical for home defense, hurricane riots, et al.

Get a Surefire weaponlight to mount to it, too.

I already have one. I picked up a WARS-10 in '05 for 200 bucks with only minor evidence of drunken monkey maintenance. No canted sights and the mag wobble was solved by some polymer love from US Palm and Tapco. I have a love for Russian engineering but the budget of an E-6 and unlike D.C. I can maintain a check book. I?m eyeing the PAP for the quality and have been eye f*@king a handgaurd/ scope set from Midwest Industries.

This is the current setup for the SC revolutionary

I know its a little grainy but it's all I've got with me at the moment.

@ Tigerstripe do you have a link to a web site You Tube is restricted here( go figure)

im old, not a computer "operator". can someone help with a link? all i come up with is dealers.

the only monkeys working on this gun are American. i just watched some other guys review it. there are a couple of differences, not the rope spring but replaceable, ......

yeah, be sure to get about 10 lights to hang off you and the gun. strobe would be good. wouldnt want someone not to know where you are.

Since you already have a non-traditional (i.e. modern) AK then I say get the PAP... but, again, only if it is a Gen3.

Out of curiosity, what are these AKs running these days? It used to be that AKs were much cheaper than ARs... Now you can put together an M4Gery from PSA for about $650 if you wait for a sale.

Here 's a link to Tigerstripe's reference. It's a Century 39 Milled Sporter made in the USA (by drunken monkies?)

$800 + S&H + FFL fee for a TAPCO-d out Century AK? :?

When I was in Vegas I saw quality Arsenal AKs starting just above there. The Sig 556R starts right around there too.

I have a Century WASR-10 which luckily is ok. Then again I only paid $300 for it (about 3 years ago), with a few mags thrown in too. I can't imagine paying triple for a Century today; I could build a nice AR for less than that, or if I liked the 7.62x39 I could just about get an Arsenal or a Sig for that price range.

I have a Zastava PAP M70 and I actually bought in NY last fall. As such it has no bayo lug but I can't complain about the rifle. I even bought it with a few pre-ban 30rd mags which were still legal in NY at the time. It's a bit heavier than your typical AK for a few reasons. Not the least of which is the stock is teak and full sized and not the typical really short length of pull ones on most eastern block guns.

I would say buy somewhere where you can actually hold the rifle. Check it for the typical AK issues like a canted FSB and make sure the bolt action doesn't cause the trigger to slap your finger. A lot of those complaints I have seen about older WASR-10's but I can say that my son has a Saiga 308 that has a slightly canted FSB so it can happen no matter who makes them. Back to the point though unless you're buying C&R at real good prices I am a firm believer in holding the firearm and personally inspecting it before buying. you just can't get a true "feel" for it unless you're actually holding it.

The one oddity about mine is the rail on the dust cover which is next to useless on this platform. Also it is missing the scope base on the side which I do wish it had.
