For the first time in years I saw a covey of quail wanting to cross the road in front of me. I stopped and counted 12 about 1/2 grown birds cross. Hard to imagine with all this heat and drought. Anybody else seeing any birds?
Over the last year I have probably seen about 50 tops. Usually small groups of half a dozen. I have seen about half of those around the Morrison and Perry area.
Maybe it's my imagination... I have not seen many ticks or chiggers this year... Due to the heat and drought? Maybe that's why the birds are doing better? The predators (cats and coyotes) around my place have moved off to wetter areas... and they decimate game birds when they can.
