Why must you open such a can of worms?

Some will say AR for various reasons and others will say AK for various reasons. If you got to shoot both kinds, which one do YOU like the best? Which one is more comfortable for you? That is where it matters the most.

For, Chili, I would get an AR over an AK. I like the ergonomics and the accuracy of the AR. IMHO, it has a slight accuracy edge. Mags are slightly cheaper and later on (after you get your sheepskin) you can accessorize the AR much easier than the AK.

If you still can't decide, shoot them again to make sure.

Why choose? Get BOTH!

I bought the AK first because it was less expensive, spent a little more money adding to it. Then I bought the AR. Two completely different firearms. As Fordnut told me when I was trying to decide. AR's are Barbie Dolls for men, you can dress 'em up any way you want. You do not the options for the AK that are available for the AR.

Easy guys lets not make this into a debate. If you have what he's looking for thats fine but take the discussions to the proper forum.

Yeah im not too interested in a debate...both will put ammo downrange...Im not going into combat with them...just wanted to come here first and see if anyone had either laying around collecting dust..otherwise ill just order a wasr 10/63 or a S&W M&P 15 Sport...425 for the wasr or 599 for the S&W..

One of our Sponsors...Upstate, has an upper for, like, $399...and a Plum Crazy lower for about $119.00...
The lower has to be shipped to an FFL, but they can send the upper right to your house...

You then have a complete, good shooting AR for about $500.00 and change...

I had a Plum Crazy lower. It worked...it shot well...and...it is an AR...

Just assisting a new shooter, giving advice on what to choose and why.
We have to help converts. He'll be much happier with the correct rifle.

But don't forget to factor in the cost of ammo.

I would agree! Plum Crazy is a fine lower. I have two and they both work great!
Upstate also has some fine AK's !

If you want to make it TactiCOOL, go with the AR, if you want A soviet Masterpiece Go AK.

Durability with the AK is higher. ARs are a little more accurate, there are Pros and cons for both rifles, the choice is yours

I myself, Have Lots of Aks and never ever had a problem, even after firing hundreds of rounds and Not cleaning them for days, and they still Function 100% when ever I go to use them, you can beat up a AK.. really

I have an AK that I'm planning on selling to make room for other projects. It's a numbers matching, unissued, Polish underfolder, built on a Nodak Spud NDS-1P receiver. This is no Century monkey build. It's been a safe queen for a few years. Very nice, virtually perfect example. Less than 20 rounds through it, just to verify proper functioning and sight alignment. Original paint on all parts, except the receiver of course. Comes with sling, bayonet, and one Com-bloc 30 round mag. This is no Century Romy WASR, and is priced accordingly @ $750.00. That may be more than you're looking to spend, given your situation, but it's one that I have for sale, so I thought I'd mention it. If you're interested, I'll shoot you some pics.
