Hey there, I'm a CWFL holder down in FL. I make periodic trips to SC to visit friends, and am highly aware of SC CCW laws, which seem a little odd, but I'm sure that subject is discussed quite a bit on these forums. I am going to travel to SC for the upcoming weekend and I'd like to bring my AR with me. I have searched through the SC statutes but can only seem to find a mention of rifles in 16-23-210, 220, 230, 240, but they refer to "sawed off rifle". What I'm trying to find out is what are the SC laws concerning the transportation of rifles. I usually carry the rifle under the Back seat of my SUV, unloaded...in FL I could carry it loaded if I wish.

Y'all have a great day, and thanks for the info.

Rob

Hey Rob...Welcome to the Forum. Glad you found us.

I am not Lawyer, so, I can only comment on what I know.

All rifles or shotguns have to have a 16" barrel, or, be registered as SBR's thru the Fed. Government. and the tax stamp paid.
In South Carolina, I don't believe there are any other laws on barrel length.

I believe that the law states that you should follow the laws of your state when traveling....but, if you stop for a period of time in another state, that states laws should be followed...

Of course...as I said before...I am not Lawyer...

Thanks Steve. Yeah, that's what I'm looking for is the SC laws concerning carrying a rifle (barrel > 16") in a vehicle.

remember if you are going through Georgia to SC they dont have reciprocity.

welcome.

Thanks. GA does have reciprocity with my FL CWFL :)

There are no actual rules concerning transport of a normal, non-nfa rifle in a vehicle in SC. To be safe and not get the dander up of any LEO who may stop you for whatever, you could follow the pistol rules which state behind the passenger compartment in a container with integral fastener, unloaded.

IE, unloaded behind the seat in a cheap gun case and you're gold.
