How easy/tough is it to put on a compensator

I got a compensator today, Lund/SJC Titan. I have a new crush washer and some peel washers on order. Is it difficult to do this? Seems straight-forward. Any advice would be appreciated.

My tentative plan is to put the barrel in a vise with urethane jaws, break free and remove the flash hider, and then install the compensator. I realize that's pretty cut and dry, but I've never been an AR person before.

I was quite surprised how easy the birdcage came off of my M&P15, no soaking, just good solid plastic vise jaws and a quick twist on the wrench :) I had a JP rifles standard profile compensator to install and little fiddling with the peel washer and some blue loctite I was done. I was kinda worried about "clocking" the compensator but decided to install at the 12 position (well maybe 12:10) but after shooting it this evening I was quite amazed. This thing shoots like my 22LR maybe better, double taps are fast and very accurate. Only downside is it's loud, very freaking loud......also if you like the odor of burnt powder (I do) you are in luck. Wish I would have done this earlier.

its real easy! Drive to jones, hand rifle over to mike cyrus, hand mike money, leave with rifle And for goodness sakes try not to run over his yard ornaments!

Its easy. If you use the peel washer instead of the crush washer, you may want to use some rocksette. It's more heat resistant than loctite. If you want some help send me a pm. I'm off work starting Friday through monday.

It is one of the few things that I am allowed to do to an AR15 so it must be easy. Try the crush washer first. If you can't get it tight with that start playing with the peel washer. If you like the comp but not the look if having a washer in there take the entire setup to Cyrwus and have him turn down the back face of the comp so it will flush up, clock correctly, and look perty.

AR's are like adult LEGO's. I enjoy doing as much myself as possible. Instead of using peel washers, i use the shim kite that are sold by Spikes.

If you remove material from the back of the comp so it clocks with no washers it looks fantastic.

You may have to torch the old flash hider to get it off, use Rockset or Loctite 271 to install it.

Thanks for all the tips! And thanks for the offer Brad. This is how it went down: I put the barrel in the vise, and it took almost ZERO effort to take off the flash hider. That was disturbing. I had to use the peel washer plus the new crush washer to get the comp clocked right, and this took a several attempts (peels). I'm going to take it up to HH around noon and see how loud and effective it is, and adjust my sights zero if need be. Two sets of ear pro will be the new standard I suppose.

Amazing. That is how I would describe the effect of this compensator. Totally negates muzzle rise and recoil. Also, horrible to shoot indoors in a small stall. It did change my sights zero a small amount, and I was fortunate to find my front sight tool to resolve this, and delighted to find that my YHM BUS is click adjustable. It was dead-on zero out of the box, so I had no idea. The rear sight horizontal correction was one click and the front sight vertical correction was one click to re-zero.

I can't, I have the fam stuff to do - have to sight in the AK before I can compete with it, have to get a few more mags and pick up a chest rig to hold mags and strippers :P I will be going to one for sure - I wish I could go tomorrow - I still have a spot in your ride for when I do, right?

You should sign up for the High Plains match. There are still spots, and last place prize is worth more than the entry fee, so it's a win-win-win! Heck, even with all my trouble at USPSA this month I still wasn't in last place, and I shot way-the-hell-more rounds than anyone else!
