how do I become an NROI certified range officer?

I don't have any experience with this, but I found this link that seems helpful... http://www.nroi.org/recert.html

Edit.
The link above seems to be old because all of the links from it give a 404 error. I left it because some of the info might still be valid.

Here is what seems to be the current link.. http://www.uspsa.org/nroi-uspsa.php

From what I can see, you just have to take a seminar and pass an exam. It even looks like you can request a seminar for your range or area (I would be interested if this happened in OKC)

We had a class 2 years ago and people are all gun hoe about taking it then when the time times people don't show up. You have to have around 25 people just to break even to pay for expenses. I think the last one we had 15. I think Arkansas is doing a class this year and that might be your best bet to get certified,

Basically you drive to Kansas, Texas, Arkansas or Louisiana. They all seem to have one annually but we get one per decade or So.

You know you can volunteer to run a class - just give USPSA a call they will work with you

Most of the other states the section has money unlike Oklahoma since no club pays a mission count to the section. When a section has money they can do a lot more. 1 club should not have the expense of hosting an ro class. The class is not cheap to pay for an instructors airfare, hotel, food and what ever else is involved.

I was thinking the same thing Ryan and instantly Rob's mention of changing the by laws came to mind. Sounds like our section needs a checking account.

I am trying to come up with a way to have a RO class, probably won't happen this though. As Ryan said,it cost I'm guessing around $600-800 to get a NROI instructor to come for the weekend to give the class. If there is enough interest I will look into it and see what would be involved to get one. But,we would have to have more than enough money sitting in the bank before scheduling a class to pay for it, I think the class I took was $40 and enjoyed every minute of it.

This is why the section needs to have some sort of fund to help with this sort of thing.

Where will this money come from? Club tax for Oklahoma ranges that host uspsa matches?

Most sections take a small fee from every entry fee to use for section expenses. Our by laws currently state that a fee is taken out for expenses such as phone calls Section coordinator travel expenses, postage stuff like that. But it's not collected because most of those costs aren't relevant in today's Internet world. Having money to help pay for sectional matches and RO classes would be wise.

That's the question, it used to be the the club sent the SC I think .25 per shooter that shot the match. That did not work because some clubs were not sending the money in, a few years ago that part of the by-laws was taken out. I am open to suggestions on how you guys think a fair way to get some funds for the section.

Rob

That sounds fair to me. Heck $1 per shooter sounds fair. How many shooters participate each month? 150ish?

I'd also ask for $5-10 per shooter from sectional matches too.

I guess the starting point is determining how much $ the section needs an an annual basis and work backwards to create a budget.

I would like to see the section have enough money to help send Jrs to Jr camp. Collecting money from the clubs only works if everyone sends money in. Some clubs have less then 20 shooters and the more money the section takes the less the club can pay for the match.

I haven't really been around USPSA very long but so far the only context in which I've heard the OK Section mentioned was bitching about how the OK Section doesn't do enough. I don't know how people expect stuff to happen without funding. I'd support levying a small fee per shooter per match.

Of course then everyone will cat lady about having to pay an extra dollar per match.

Like taxes, some will want everyone to pay more, some less.

I think GM's should pay more.

Each club could easily have a Paypal account and funds could be sent fast right after a match.

What about yearly dues? Say $10 a year to go to the section fund, but what about those that don't pay?
Just throwing something out there

I like it Rob. Unfortunately it doesn't get $ from the guys that aren't USPSA members. It's also a lot more transactions for the section coordinator. It's easiest to collect at match fee time and have the clubs pay off their mission count.

What if you have the clubs pay for 2013 at the beginning if the year based on 2012's numbers. That way the section has the money up front and there are only a handful of transactions. Obviously this would require some prep manning so the clubs could make sure they save enough $ to pay for next year.
