How did you pick your pistol?

Truth I'm not a pistol fan, I have 3. Back when I was looking for a carry pistol I shot many and went with the G23 and never really shot it all that much. Got the bug to go shooting and found out there was a USPSA coming up so why not as it had been YEARS since I had shot one, had a good time then shot a 3G had a good time and thought it would be worth my time to add a dedicated pistol. A 2011 was out of my budget plus I didn't really want to mess with them I just wanted to BS with folks and shoot. I spent some time chatting with folks then Kurt let me borrow his G24 and it was over for me! something that works, is simple, and I can work on it just what I was after. I bought a G24 and made it how I wanted and it has treated me well. Do I want a 2011? not really as my G24 is not what is holding me back BUT if it ever gets to that point I'll have to look at something else but I don't see that I'll be purchasing another pistol for a long time. I mostly got a M&P because I decided that I couldn't be like everyone else and get a Glock. The rest was equal parts GRIP ANGLE LOL and BUST EM.

Even though I learned better than all that by now I'm still pretty happy with it.
 
I started at my first match with a S&W Model 67 .38.
I realized that 6 rounds times 3 speed loaders was not going to be enough ammo, as much as I miss.
I went looking for a concealable/carriable gun that I could shoot in matches.
Bought a Glock 27. and Springfield XD sub compact.
Got the chance to shoot an XDM and now own 3. 3.8, 4.5, 5.25.
They fit my hand better than anything I have shot to date.
I'm still not very good... But Man DO I HAVE FUN !
 
I started compeating with a Beretta 92fs I inherited from my brother. I shot several matches with Chris and Jesse and fell for the M&P 9pro.
Just find what fits you.
 
quality and price.

I wanted a quality 1911 with adjustable sights. I found a good price (in my budget) on a S & W 1911 and bought it. 3 years ago the price was $850.
 
I have a glock 17 cos I cant shoot good with a 34, Im not a real big fan of CZ's and I couldnt afford a 2011 Other than that I havent shot with any other pistolas.
Oh and it was cheap, ish Which ment I could spend more on ammo and that
 
I didn't have a pistol at the time, but I wanted something that I could use as my carry gun and also use for matches to see if this was something that I really wanted to get into. So I rented a few models that I had narrowed my buy list down to based upon reviews and friend's recommendations. In hindsight I wish I wouldn't have narrowed it down so far because I never even gave any Sig's or M&P's a go. That being said, I ended out buying a Glock 17 Gen3.

Fast forward a few months and I'm now looking for a dedicated competition gun. The G17 will remain my carry gun but my focus is now moving up into the next class of guns (STI, Sig X5, Para, etc). Still working on how I'm going to go about testing those tho before I buy lol.

I bought a glock 22 for reliability and shot my first uspsa match with it. Damn that was a mistake, like hooking a giant vacuum to my bank account. After every match I could find a practical reason for some new equipment. I still have the glock 22 as a defensive weapon but also have a 1911,g35,sti 2011....uh oh 3 gun, that looks like fun.

First pistol in general... to be honest my grandfather was a sucker for marketing. He was filthy stinking rich in the 80's due to owning a large gun shop, large security service, and being a consultant for FBI training schools, and had quite the collection of high end 1911's. Then he lost everything and got out of guns. When he heard I was looking, he recommended one he had been reading good things about, one that had about $1,200 worth of free custom stuff on it. That's right, a Taurus. It actually shot pretty well but the finish was horrendous and hardly anything would feed in it. Wilson Combat mags and Blazer Brass FMJ's was the only combination I found that was really reliable. In other words, it kind of sucked, and I sold it.

First pistol for competition... I grabbed an FNX-40 thinking the single action mode just HAD to be tons better than a Glock, and I already knew how to shoot a 1911. Little did I know that it would downright suck for shooting little steel targets at 20 yards. The recoil, combat sights, long trigger pull even in single action mode, small height of the grip which makes it hard for two hands, and 4" barrel made it thoroughly inappropriate. So, I get to ditch that whole setup and start all over.
 
Going by word of mouth, gun magazines and numerous forums, my first pistol was a Glock 21, as I wanted something relatively inexpensive, excellent stopping power, good capacity and very reliable.
 
I sold a S&W Model 24 (bought in 1985) for nearly 3x what I paid for it and wanted to get something "nice". So, I bought a new CZ 75 SP-01 Shadow. I figured anything with a name that long had to be good, right?

Funny I never could be consistently accurate with any of my glocks, i picked up and xdm and couldnt hardly miss and now have 4. I need to get around to trying an m&p and REALLY want a 2011...
 
When I was going to college in Dallas I went to a shooting range called Collin County where I watched my first IDPA match. I didn't know what it was but I knew I wanted to do it.
Everyone there shot a 1911 so I bought a Kimber custom I and (at that point) had never shot a pistol that was so accurate. Then I wanted to shoot in four different classes so I bought a glock 19 and couldn't hit anything with it for a long time. Then another glock 35, 17, 26, XDM, Colt Gold Cup Trophy 70 series, M&P Pro, Para double stack,Ruger SP101, baby eagle, S&W 686 7 shot, S&W 686 6 shot, and then learned about steel challenge so Ruger mark4 and a ruger 22/45, buckmark, then I heard about 3 gun. So.... versa max, benelli M2, Colt competition rifle AR.

I saw a lot of guys use less common guns and learned why they are less commonly used. Like beretta 92 and ruger P89. Lots of them didn't finish the match or even a stage.

Now I want to go to a JP Enterprise AR 15, STI 2011, STI Trojan, and some type of CZ.
 
I the year since I started this, I've made some changes. I still shoot the XDm, because I'm not made of money, and I discovered 3 gun. What I did was install a Powder River Precision drop in trigger, extended mag release, and solid guide rod. Still legal in Production, and shoots so much better. Tomorrow, I'm installing a magwell, gathering mag bases, and moving to Limited. Seems this will align better with what I do in 3 Gun as well. My XDm functions great, only gripe I have is having to drift rear sight more than I thought I should. I also shoot bunny fart .40 loads, around 140 PF.
 
I had a Glock 23, then the day of the match someone wanted to trade for a Glock 22. Worked fine but I got rid of it and now I have a VERY VERY sexy Colt 1911.
 
Shot ALLOT of different ones, then decided which one I liked best. It has changed several times since, but primarily Glocks because of the trigger, accessories, and reliability. I currently am carrying a Kimber SOLO that is a nice carry gun, but not a great range "fun" gun.
 
I bought a Beretta 92F about 20 years ago because it was cool and was used in Lethal Weapon. Never really used it and ended up pawning it a couple years later. Didn't get back into shooting for over a decade and when I got back in bought a Glock 23 for CCW. Ended up getting into USPSA and Multigun and realized the G23 wasn't really cut out for that so now have an S&W M&P Pro 5" .40 with SSS magwell, Taran Tactical base pads and Apex trigger. It rocks for my purposes and wasn't too expensive but I'm sure the itch for a custom STI Edge will eventually get the best of me... It's a sickness.
