After deciding that NRA high power had lost its popularity here after a long hiatus, I decided to try USPSA due to the fairly large amount of local events. So, I went shopping, after a little bit of research, and I'll admit I chose my Springfield Armory XDm 4.5 in .40 SW, with OD frame and black slide, just because I thought it looked badassed.

So far, it seems a solid choice for Production.

How did you guys pick that first pistol?

I bought my first gun an XDM9 cause it looked badass. It took 6 months to figure out the Glock and M&P were easier to shoot fast and buy add on parts.

Sadly, I haven't tried anything else. But, at least for me, my trigger could be tons better, and the mag release is hard to manipulate.

The gun I used at my first match wasn't bought for that specific reason, its just what I had at the moment. M&P 9 full size. Ammo was cheap and I wasn't even sure id like the sport.

Several $k later.................I like it..I guess.

Started with a Glock because everyone has em, but quickly realized the grip angle sucks and the trigger is elephant dung even with extensive work.
Moved to M&P Pro and after some polishing and an Apex usb, life was Bliss.

Then I found a Tanfoglio Limited that's been worked over by Henning & Kurt Miller... Wow oh wow.

Trial and error bro bro.

Found ranges that had pistols that seemed popular for USPSA and IDPA available for rent and tried them out. I liked the Glock and M&P roughly equally, so fell on the side of made in America. (well, Massachusetts anyway, still closer to American than Austria).

I bought a somewhat modified OD-green-framed Glock 17 from my brother, because it was what I could afford at the time. It had full coverage stippling and an ISMI FLGR, but factory-type night sights and factory trigger.

Read everything I could on pistols that I could afford. Then I went out and handled or shot each one. I decided to purchase a M&P 9L had a trigger job and I love it. Just passed it down to my son.
I saved all my penny's and I mean every penny, now I have a 2011.

First was an XDm 9mm recommended to me by my brother-in-law, my resource at the time for advice on guns (PRE BS FORUM). Still have it and still like it. Now I'm just going down the road most have been before me, now have a glock 24 I'm going to shoot Limited Major with.

Too many toys out there, so little money :)

Bought a g35 because I didn't think I would reload.

Bought a dillon.

Transformed g35 into an open grun.

Went shooting the g35 with a buddy that had a 2011.

Sold the g36 ( for a loss) and bought a custom 2011.

Now the cz shadow had my attention for production.

I used what I had in the beginning.
After several matches & seeing the popular pistols, I tried them out & chose from there, eventually upgrading to a 2011.

Use what you have, just get out there.

I had a G17 upgraded to a G24 (thanks Kirt)
started running a 9mm conversation barrel in G24 right after I purchased it because I liked extra bullets for 3 gun
Borrowed a 2011 then bought a 2011 in .40
2011 is definitely easier to shoot accurately than a Glock, but I went back to G 24 simple & reliable

Started with a Sig P220 because that is what I had at the time when I discovered USPSA. Tried variety of pistols and revolvers over the years. My current Production gun is a CZ75 SP-01.

Shot my first matches with a beat to hell mil spec Thompson 1911. Didnt come in last, so I was hooked.
Wanted a G34, but a buddy had a G35 for sale and I bought that.
Used the G35 to win a Shadow at the first Pro-Am.
There have been a couple of STI's along the way, but mostly I've been shooting the Shadow ever since.

I started wanting to get a pistol again. I didn't even know USPSA or IDPA existed, I planned on getting a Ruger P345 (I think that was the model), because it was in .45ac and affordable. They had an HK45 next to it in the case I picked up the ruger then asked to hold the HK.....3 months of layaway later I had an HK and discovered the shooting sports.

I started out with a Ruger P95DC that my dad gave me for my first couple of matches. I decided that I really liked doing this so I talked to a buddy of mine who has been doing this for a long time and he recommended the xDm or the G34 to start out with. I went out and played with them and decided that I liked the feel of the Glock better and went ahead and got one. Now that I finally got some more mags I will be shooting that in USPSA Production and IDPA SSP. Eventually I would love to have a 2011 open gun.

I bought my first pistol because I read it was good in a gun magazine. I eventually sold that Glock 22. I also quit buying guns with out shooting that make and model first.
