holster to keep pistol on chest for hiking

buddy has one of these, he swears by it.
he is big on hiking & outdoorsy stuff.

Unless you're "in the act of hunting or fishing", I don't think this would work for hiking. I believe you have to still carry it concealed when hiking.

Those are both kind of like the WWII tanker holsters for the 1911. Great idea, no snagging to either side that way. Both good finds!

The Diamond D holsters are nice. I'm from Alaska and they are pretty popular up there. I got an Alaska Sportsman chest holster (http://www.alaskasportsmanproducts.com/) which is much cheaper than the Diamond D, but not as nice. They're listed at $80 on the website but I found mine for about a third that on sale.

You might also consider something that attaches to the hip belt of your hiking rucksack. A lot of the newer holsters have MOLLE-style attachments that you may be able to rig up to your hip belt.

Finally, for long guns, I LOVE my Kifaru gunbearer. For the weight of a heavy revolver you could probably come close to carrying a carbine or shotgun. A mossberg 500 only weighs around 6 lbs. I'd prefer to carry 6 lbs strapped to my ruck hip belt than 3-4 lbs on a chest holster any day. I prefer to carry a can of bear spray and a 45-70 or shotgun anyways

Great looking gear. Just acquired the similar Bianchi made nylon holster for my Ruger Blackhawk. I believe it was significantly less expensive and will serve me better here in the southeast.
