I'm in the market for a .308 for heavy metal. I've been looking at some jp and larue. Any suggestion? If so on the larue I'm torn between the predatobr and the predatar. And Jesse, is stag arms still working on a .308? I'm also open to other brands like colt or others.

I just got notice from two online gun shops that the DPMS 308 3G is out now. Both had them for around $1450.

The Remington R-25 in .308 is a great heavy metal rifle. Good balance, good standard rifle that runs. Buy a good trigger, get good glass or a rail w/ irons, get the barrel threaded for a comp, and practice.

All that fast crazy hosing goes out the window in heavy divisions, so no need for edge of reliability gas systems. Hit targets on the first shot and youre good!

Unless you are just dead set on an AR platform I would highly recommend the Springfield M1A. Also DSGArms is doing amazing things with the FAL pattern rifles.

Ruger just released their SR762...it's an option. I suspect when I can afford a .308 cal AR it'll be a M&P10. I still have plans to own an M1a but that's in addition to, not instead of, an AR10 style rifle.

Jesse, just went to the Ruger website. Looks like the SR762 is a piston system like the 556. Currently offered with a 16" barrel.
Probably not the best choice for heavy metal 3 gun then due to the added recoil of the piston system.

And then there's the fact that it weighs a full pound more and costs $500 more than a M&P10.

Maybe not the best choice for Heavy, but my LGS got in two of them today. I'll try to post a range report when I have time to try out the one that followed me home.

If I was going to get a larue right now I would just keep an eye on armslist and gunbroker. They are popping up every now and then at decent prices for the most part
