I'm looking into getting into heavy's next season and i'm wondering what would be a good pistol to start out with? I currently shoot a Glock 34 for tac ops. I would like to stay around the $1,000 range. I have looked at the remington R1 enhanced with the dawson sights. It seemed to be a nice pistol but i've never shot one. But I was wondering what you other guys are running. thanks

For single stack I am running a STI Trojan in 40SW with Tripp Corey mags. If I were to get a new 1911 in 45, I would once again go with STI. I think the have a non-ramped barrel 1911s starting under $800.

I have an STI Spartan in .45 w/ten round mags. I had the trigger worked on a bit to make it better. Not too shabby for a $650 gun. Well $750 after trigger work.

My go to Heavy Metal Gun is my .45 STI 2011.

If I were going cheap it would be the Glock 21. Mags, sights, mag wells etc are cheap and easy to find.

Are you planning on shooting heavy irons or optics? Check the match rules at the ones your planning on going to, a lot of them allow 9mm in heavy scope. If you're not planning on shooting Single Stack in USPSA I'd say go with a Glock or 2011 reason being there's a bigger magwell for all the reloading you have to do.
