Havent seen one of these in a while

Found another one this morning. Its was about half the size of the one yesterday and the colors were more vibrant. Pretty cool to see one let alone 2 different ones
 
I found a couple about a year or so just east of Stillwater at my work... Found out about the OSU and Wildlife agencies wanting them a day or so later. Went out to find them again and they were gone. Must have known something was up when i had gone out to look at them a couple days in a row. Or, come to think of it, We had a road runner living back there that summer, it might have got them?
 
I had one of these when I was a kid. Went on vacation and the b!tch watching him forgot to feed him and he died. Now you never seem to see them around.
 
When I was a kid (grew up in the Macomb/Tecumseh area) we saw horny toads, and roadrunners all the time. Road runners were a daily sight, horny toads were rare, but you saw them. I can't remember the last time I saw a horny toad, late 90s or so, and now when I see a road runner I feel like I need to call someone and tell them!


And now living in Broken Arrow.....I just miss red dirt.....

i saw one at my place a couple years ago. before that, its been a long time ago. i was out in the yard one day and a car pulled up and they go "we used to live around here and we were just visiting and we are looking for horny toads, have you seen any?" i said not so much, just one.


thought that was kinda weird.

Maybe they were looking for camel toads.

Not exactly. It is listed as a "species of concern", but it's neither "threatened" nor "endangered". Fed fines do not apply.

It is, however, listed as having a "closed season" by the state. So it is technically illegal to possess.

Other Reptile Dates & Daily Limits

There is a statewide closed season on the following reptiles: Texas horned lizard, desert side-blotched lizard, checkered whiptail, American alligator, western chicken turtle, map turtle, wandering garter snake, gulf crayfish snake, alligator snapping turtle, earless lizard and roundtail horned lizard.

Thanks for posting that pic! I, like a lot of the other guys, haven't seen one of those in years. If you grew up in Oklahoma you played with horny toads. We used to catch them and have races with them. Then let them go.

Horny toads are gone but those damn quail eating roadrunners are still around. I see them all the time.
